PRAYER/REFLECTION: All Hallows Eve - the eve before All Saints Day
It is widely believed that many Halloween traditions originated from ancient Celtic harvest festivals, particularly the Gaelic festival Samhain & Brythonic festival Calan Gaeaf: that such festivals may have had pagan roots; and that Samhain & Calan Gaeaf were themselves Christianised as Halloween by the early Church. It is now All Hallows Eve - the eve before All Saints Day, and All Souls Day occurs on 2 November.
Let us pray for our friends and relatives who have died.
May God lead them to the joy of heaven and send us his comfort and peace.
We pray to the Lord … Lord hear our prayer.
Let us pray for ourselves.
That we might treasure our Baptism, which has made us one in Christ:
a communion of saints.
We pray to the Lord … Lord hear our prayer.
Let us pray that God will open our eyes and hearts to serving Jesus in each other.
May our care for one another be a sign of the oneness we share in Christ with all the saints.
We pray to the Lord … Lord hear our prayer.
God our Father, by our Baptism, you made us your holy people
and called us to share in the joy of your saints.
By their help and example you guide us to live for others as Jesus taught us.
May their prayers strengthen and comfort us as we follow Jesus to his promise of everlasting life.
We make this prayer to you in His name.
Amen
Just a reminder that if your son is trick or treating to remember stranger danger. Speaking of danger it looked very dangerous in the Junior School Library today!

It's that time of year again where the P&F needs around 15 to 18 helpers to cut the sausages, cook the sausages, bag the bread and generally help make lunch happen for the boys and the staff on Founder's Day. We'd love to see the 2016 or 2017 helpers return and some new volunteers too! Please let the P&F know if you can assist, even just for an hour or so, between 8:30am and 12:30pm via robson.nadine@gmail.com.
TERM 4 CALENDAR
The Term 4 Calendar is attached below and activities with a significant number of Junior School participants are highlighted in Red. I have left many other activities in the calendar as you may have an older son, or occasionally a Junior Boy is involved in a Senior activity. It also demonstrates the busy nature of the college.
A THOUGHT TO PONDER
Thanking you for your support.

JUNIOR DEBATING NEWS
We ended the season with our final debates at the Gala Day at Abbotsleigh Junior School last Monday 29 October. The boys were well prepared and presented very clever and well formulated arguments. Both topics were very challenging: 'That students should be paid to attend school ' and 'That we must lower the voting age'.
Well done to both teams on their debates and in training, working together and developing their caselines and clever rebuttal skills. Congratulations to the entire debating squad on their commitment to attending lunchtime training sessions throughout Terms 2-4. The boys should proud of their efforts in a very successful season.
Mrs B Spanyik - Learning Enrichment Teacher
Halloween arrived today in the JRC . The boys read, watched and listened to chilling stories from the book, Things That Go Bump in the Night by Patrick Carman. This collection of stand-alone spooky, short stories boasts urban legends, creature features, and campfire ghost stories!
John Larkin drops in again for another week of creativity with our Year 6 young aspiring writers. Looking forward to reading their manuscripts!

Because the horror will call irresistibly to you. It will say, 'Come, see how petrifying I am! Imagine the ghastliness of what is about to happen! Turn the page! Turn the page! '
Happy Reading! There are words to be spelled, nerves to be overcome and a champion to be found!

Students progressing to Year 7 do not need to re-apply if they:
Where a student meets the new distance eligibility for high school, the system will automatically update their entitlement. If they do not meet the new eligibility, they will receive an expiry notification. Students who have an entitlement approved under a medical condition which is due to expire will receive a notification advising them to re-apply. Term Bus Pass holders will receive a notification to re-apply.
If students need to update their information or re-apply, they should go online to https://apps.transport.nsw.gov.au/ssts/updateDetails
Applications need to be submitted before 31 December 2018 to ensure student entitlements are updated and their current entitlement/card is not cancelled. If their application is submitted after 31 December 2018, the system will automatically cancel a card and a new one will need to be issued.
Students in the Opal network applying for a SSTS or Term Bus Pass entitlement for the first time will receive their card at their nominated postal address. Cards will be mailed out during December 2018 and January 2019. For further information visit https://apps.transport.nsw.gov.au/ssts

SOFTBALL - ROUND 8 REPORT: It was fantastic to be on our home ground last Saturday ready for another fun morning of softball. The coach checked with the players that they had eaten breakfast and noted that they had energy to burn and were prepared for the game. Our opponents were Trinity Juniors and they were also ready for a contest. St Pius was sent into bat first and began well with Jordan Moore making a homerun in the first part of play. Following on from that great effort were Aiden Tubman, Ben Bromby, Xavier Dwyer and Oliver Johnston who also added runs to the scoresheet. After the first innings the score was 5-2 with St Pius ahead.
St Pius fielded next and were great at keeping the ball under control. Max Lenton who played short stop kept his eye on the play, communicating to Dominic Mitchell and Jakob Lohtaja where the ball needed to be thrown. Our players on the bases, Ben Shoudra, Jack Harrison and Matthew Yee also kept a keen eye and were able to keep Trinity’s run rate to a minimum in all three innings, making St Pius the victors this week.
Mr Couani had heard about our softball team and was up early to come and watch, as well as learn some tips for his grandchildren. It was a terrific morning and we're all looking forward to next Saturday's game at Oxford Falls.
Players: please eat breakfast before the game, it helps!
Parents: please remember to bring a chair as there is no seating at Oxford Falls.
Thank you to Mrs Johnston for keeping score and to Mr Yee and Mr Couani for taking photos.
