Basketball

We need Parents to join our Basketball Committee. No Basketball experience is needed. The Committee meets three times per year and help decide how we allocate funds from the P&F to assist in supporting our Basketball teams and players. The Committee runs a couple of BBQs to raise funds to support the College's Basketball program. The AGM will be held in the coming weeks. Please email Robert Aposhian robaposh@gmail.com if you can join the team.

Thank-you to everyone who helped score on Saturday - your efforts are much appreciated. We had some great matches against ourselves on Saturday at Oxford Falls. All the D Teams played the E teams. I’m happy to say all games were played in good spirit. Our B teams had a great day out against Oxley A teams, except for the 2nds who went down in overtime. The 1sts struggled in the first quarter of their match against St Patrick’s Firsts, and that proved to be the difference at the end of the match.

Games of the day:        13Es one point win over the 13Ds. An epic match.

Play of the day:              Adam Carpenter scored his first Basket ever in his first game.

Deserves a mention:   George Pickering - 1sts;  Lachlan Onslow - 15As;  Ryan Johnsun - 13Bs;

                                                Jake Ormsby, Oli Aylmer, Gus Paterson - 14Cs;  and the 13A team.

NSTA Tennis

Round 2 – 27 October 2018:   It was another fantastic day of spring weather for our Tennis matches last Saturday.  It was great to see our Blue and White on the courts at the 5 AWAY fixtures while the Talus Courts were a hive of activity with our staff there too.

This weekend is said to be even hotter with a hot day on Friday preceding play – please ensure that you are playing with good hydration and sun care to support your well-being and enjoyment of the game this weekend.

Teams across all fixtures, AWAY games and at home, presented themselves very well with great sportsmanship on display and a willingness to jump in and umpire – even offering at AWAY games by some students. This attitude and manners was appreciated and commented upon by our parents and opposing teams too – well done St Pius Tennis Crew!

As per the Player and Parent Agreement, please remember that access to First Aid and personal medications should be with players and a parent should be on site for all AWAY games.

A tougher day on court with some tough losses in close tie-breaks – but some great comebacks too – with some players down 0-3 and coming back to even the score and in some cases taking the set!

A fantastic turnaround in Result Sheets this week.  This is a GREAT improvement so thank you.  This means that I can report victories this week for Teams: 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 10, 12, 15, 17, 19, 23, 25, 27 and 28.

Some reminders as we get in to Saturday Routines:

  • Some Players have not been arriving in good time for the required warm-up and then start time.  7:45am and 9:45am are the latest times for arrival.
  • It is anticipated that all Players and Parents remain for the entirety of the Match. It is a Team sport; whether at HOME or AWAY games – this is the culture that we have at SPX.
  • Some players are still sorting correct uniform via the College Shop – please attend to this sooner than later.
  • Players should not be leaving venues AWAY or HOME unaccompanied. For Students in Year 11 – if parents prefer them to make their own way home then please arrange a note to that effect for the date(s) required.

If the points above are an issue, then please have that conversation with the Staff Coach, Convenor or appropriate Sports Master.   Looking forward to Round 3.
