Lakes Accomplishments

FIRST Lego League Update

FLL has been launched! Here is our mission!

You can assist in familiarising your child with the challenge rules and resources.

Head to

https://www.firstinspires.org/resource-library/fll/challenge-and-resources for more details.

Be sure to discuss with your child how they are going to approach the three areas of the competition:

  • Robot
  • Project
  • Core Values

There are also Facebook pages where you can get answers to questions your child might have.

As we go along, student resources will be added to Showbie and a discussion forum has been opened for students to interact and ask questions about the challenge.

Other teams will be spending up to five hours a week preparing for the regional qualifiers, so I will make myself available at lunch (when not on yard duty) and if the team deems it necessary, gladly run after school sessions (you will be notified prior).

Teams have been finalised and we are ready to take on roles to get prepared for the competition.

Regionals are on Sunday 17th November. We will have to make our own way to the venue, I have inquired into the possibility of changing our regional qualifiers to Roxburgh College as opposed to Melbourne Girls Grammar in Richmond, due to the closer locale.

As this is the first time The Lakes is participating in this competition, I am just as nervous and excited as the kids are, about taking on this new challenge. To assist, I am currently working on securing special guest presenters and a collaborative partnership with another team. If you know of anyone who might be able to give us an advantage in any way shape or form, please let us know.

A special thanks goes out to Brock V and his family for braving the cold Sunday morning to venture out to Swinburne KIOSC in Wantirna for the competition launch.

If you have any questions, do not hesitate to call.

Whittlesea School’s Community Bunjil shield

On Tuesday 20th August, our Year 8 boys and girls soccer teams competed against Mernda Central College in the inaugural Whittlesea School’s Community Bunjil shield. Named after Bunjil, the creator and protector of the Wurundjeri people. This event was created to enable students to develop a sense of belonging and build friendships within our community.

The friendly games were played in great spirit and all students displayed all the qualities and values required to build respectful relationships. Mernda Central won the girls match and The Lakes won the boys match. Congratulations to our friends at Mernda Central and to all participants and coaches from The Lakes on what was a wonderful celebration of community.
