Netball

Since last term the Netball girls competed in the SACCSS Grand Final against Marymede Catholic College at the State Netball and Hockey Centre. The girls went the whole season undefeated finishing with a 33-17 victory over Marymede. A special mention to Lauren Vella who was named as player of the series and Mikaela Jurcic who was named MVP for the Grand Final. Well done girls!

Futsal

The day kicked off with an early start, as the girls and boys gathered at CRC Sydenham before departing to arrive at Albert Park Indoor Sport’s Centre for the Futsal Tournament. The girls participating, felt elevated and even more competitive as we stepped foot inside the centre, where we came across other schools. The girls and I were equipped to verse 6 different schools.

Our first game consisted with a win of 2-0 against Emmanuel College, followed by another win of 4-0 against Antonine College. After these two games the girls were feeling quite unstoppable and irrepressible.  The girls worked as part of a team to win the Semi Final by 7 goals. The Final game of the Tournament had approached, versing St. Monica’s College. This was the match that caused a few nerves for the girls and I, as this school have been known for their well achievements in sporting activities. Though this did not stop us at all from defeating St Monica’s with a score of 2-0. The girls celebrated with the boys, as they too entered on our court with a fulfilling win of the Futsal Tournament.

The boys side was looking to make it 7 futsal tournament wins in a row winning all games on their way to the final against St Monica’s. The boys finished the day winning 3-2 with Captain Jakob Krajacic winning MVP.

Hockey

Last Thursday the Girls and Boys Hockey teams travelled to Essendon Hockey Club and the State Netball and Hockey Centre to compete at SACCSS Senior Hockey. They Girls team tried hard all day but ultimately could not find the back of the net for a win, going down in three close matches. The boys team faired slightly better scoring a goal to find a victory against CRC North Keilor however losing the other three matches. Both teams showed improvement over the day with both coaches impressed with how the students adapted to a new sport.

Chess

On Monday a group of 8 boys travelled to Marymede to defend last years Chess Championship. The boys competed very well across the day unfortunately, just falling short, finishing second overall in the team category.

Boys Soccer

After tasting defeat last year to St Monica’s College in the Grand Final the boys tackled the season full of determination and commitment to each other. The boys got an early chance of a square up against St Monica’s winning 2-0 in the first game of the year and proceeded to go the season undefeated comfortably accounting for Kolbe, Caroline Chisolm and Emmanuel. The chance for redemption was handed to the boys when St Monica’s qualified for the final in second spot. Playing a fired up and emotionally charged St Monica’s the boys road the early momentum and begun to play there own game and it took until the 65th minute to break the deadlock with a Josh Rudas strike. After a few tense moments in the dying stages the boys held on to defeat St Monica’s 1-0, with Liam Wardle named best on ground.

Girls Soccer

After winning last years Grand Final the girls looked to start the season strong with a match against St Monica’s leading 2-1 with 10 minutes to play the girls conceded 2 goals to go down 3-2. To the girls credit the bounced back in the next 3 games scoring a massive 29 goals without conceding a goal. This qualified the girls for a Grand Final appearance against St Monica’s and the girls were determined to make amends after the early defeat in the season. An early goal to Jess Traynor helped to settle the girls down however it was St Monica’s who had the most chances and eventually capitalised before half time. A goal after the break didn’t help and going down 2-1 the girls lost all run. A final push in the dying stages created two chances however the girls were unable to make the most of them, with the final score line staying 2-1.

Athletics

On Tuesday the 5th of September 30 students travelled to Albert Park Athletics Track to defend last years Senior Athletics Championship. A successful day on the track saw Mikaela Jurcic win the U/17-20 Female Age Group Champion and helped the girls win the Senior Girls Division 1 Aggregate Championship. The boys also competed well finishing 4th overall culminating in a 3rd place overall. Well done to all of those that participated on the day.
