Truganini News

The college was blossoming during the first day of spring as the school community celebrated Cluster Feast Day. Traditionally with every feast day, comes 6 unique masses in honour of our cluster representative.
Over 150 eager students and 10 teachers gathered together and managed to squeeze into two classrooms in order to pay respects to Truganini; the very last full blood Tasmanian Aboriginal.
We were gracious enough to have our new parish priest, Father Maurie Cooney, who offered to celebrate and host our mass with us. He began by acknowledging the traditional custodians of the sacred land and their elders (both past and present). This was a good introduction to the rest of the mass as all the readings were based on the relationship between Truganini’s values of Empowerment, Justice and Reconciliation, and the college theme ‘Soar Like the Eagle.” Father Cooney was able to compare the teachings of the gospel, written thousands of years ago, to current and local events, which created a more captivating and relatable mass.
Many thanks to Mikaela, Camila, Luke, Alicia, Kian, Sarah, Janela, Bailey, Sibel and Kristian for volunteering to be a part of the procession. We would also like to thank Adrian and Chris for preparing a charming mass, which created a peaceful and holy environment.
Before dismissal, we thanked Father Cooney and welcomed him to College Community and invited him to watch our annual Talent Quest show. Every one within the Truganini Cluster was then rewarded with a delicious meal of baked potatoes with healthy condiments for being reverent and respectful throughout the mass.
