Year 12 Legal Studies Incursion – Victorian Law Reform Commission (VLRC)

On Tuesday the 4th October, Nick Gadd, a member of the Victorian Law Reform Commission (VLRC) visited Melton Secondary College and presented to the Year 12 Legal Studies class.

The role and impact of the Victorian Law Reform Commission is relevant to Outcome 1 in Unit 3 of the Study Design, so this incursion was most relevant and beneficial to the students who are busy revising for their final Examination on Wednesday 9th November.

The VLRC came into operation on April 2001. It is an independent, government- funded organisation. It was established to investigate areas of law in which government feels there is a need for reform and to monitor and coordinate law reform activity in Victoria.

Nick Gadd presented an engaging workshop and kept the attention of all present with two recent law reform cases, Medicinal Cannabis and Adoption Law. Nick’s constant questioning and prompting indeed kept this presentation interactive as well as allowing the students a chance to practice retrieving past information from way back in March this year. Our students impressed both Nick and myself with their participation and insightful questions.

Upon the conclusion of the presentation, Nick Gadd presented each student with a free VLRC booklet and a number of useful tips for the end of year Examination.

The Year 12 Legal Studies students are to be commended for their enthusiastic participation and respectful behaviour throughout the presentation.

Design and Technology

"The week of October 10th - 14th was a whole week of celebrating everything Design and Technology! Students have had the opportunity to take part in fun and creative activities while exploring the role that design and technology plays in our lives and our futures.

More than just making, we've encouraged everyone to come along and help us solve a range of design problems, demonstrating just how important creative problem solvers are to our society.

The Technology department has held lunch time demonstrations, one of them involving a past MSC student Corey Moore.

Corey Moore left MSC in 2015 to begin an apprenticeship as a pastry chef at the Langham Hotel. He started off the technology week by providing a demonstration to current students on how to make a professional dessert.

The rest of the week involves activities such as learning how to construct woodworking joins, electronics, metal jewellery making and textile folding and dying techniques."
