Student Action Team Captain: Charity and Service Enrichment

Before I applied for a leadership position at the end of 2018, I asked myself "what does it mean to be a leader?" Is it someone who is an attentive listener, or perhaps someone who has great leadership skills? That's what first came to my mind, however the more I thought about the question, the more I began to understand what it means to me; "A leader is a server". A server is someone who is willing to give, rather than take, someone who does great things for the benefit of their peers and environment, and expects nothing in return.

My passion for leadership lead me to obtaining the role of the first Student Action Team (SAT) Captain for Charity and Service Enrichment at Endeavour College. It is an extreme privilege to lead the Charity and Service team this year. I have many ideas and plans that I hope to discuss with the SAT, to enhance service throughout the school and community.

I am looking forward to serving the College this year, with Joel, Grace, Amber and Luke. Together we hope to serve the community in the best way possible. This year we will be focusing on strengthening school spirit through more student involvement, enhancing each individual's spirituality, and representing the College to the best of our abilities.

Student Action Team Captain - Media, Communication and Event Promotion

For a community filled with a wide variety of brilliance, from academic excellence, to artistic flair, to the supportive and guiding nature so integral to the Endeavour College ethos, over my years at Endeavour, I have seen no shortage of inspiring and determined leaders who advocate for the talents of their peers. So, when presented with the privilege of becoming one of the SAT Captains for 2019, it was no secret that sustaining the legacy those before me had left would be no easy task.

This year marks the beginning of a new leadership structure at Endeavour, one which divides three key aspects of the responsibilities we, as the student body, control, and forms three teams to support and foster ideas surrounding these aspects. I have been elected as the leader of the Media, Communication and Event Promotion team, a group of uplifting and determined students. I am very excited to be working with the team throughout the course of this year.

As Queen Elizabeth II puts it, ‘I know of no single formula for success. But over the years I have observed that some attributes of leadership are universal and are often about finding ways of encouraging people to combine their efforts, their talents, their insights, their enthusiasm and their inspiration to work together.’ And it is this mentality, of sharing the incredible abilities of the students here at Endeavour College, which motivates me to work hard alongside my fellow Student Executive Members, Grace, Joel, Luke and Shatha, to achieve greatness throughout the course of this year. Here’s to an exciting, enjoyable and productive 2019.

Luke Schwarz

Student Action Team Captain: Spiritual and Community Building

Through the application processes of last year, I was given a chance to reflect on what it really means to be a leader and how I would be able to develop my skills in a leadership position. I found through this process, that a good leader is someone who is part of the group of people that they are trying to lead and not above them. This is what I believe is the most important part about being a leader and is something that I will strive towards throughout this year.

I am very excited about this year as we, the Student Executive, are trailblazing a new format of leadership for the school in 2019. Under this new format, I am the Spiritual and Community Building Leader for 2019. I am very excited about this position and have great hopes leading forward into the year ahead. I am also excited to be working alongside my fellow Captains Joel, Grace, Amber and Shatha to bring a positive change to Endeavour for our final year.
