ANZAC DAY

Students have been invited to participate in an Anzac Day event by representing their school and commemorating this important annual event.

Anzac Day is traditionally a significant event for Girton students who attend dozens of different memorial services in Bendigo, Castlemaine and beyond.

This year, things will be different, however, students are still able to support our returned soldiers, and to represent Girton tomorrow in a unique way.

Our aim is to form a photo gallery of Girton students commemorating those who have fought for their country and to send this gallery to the Bendigo RSL to show our support.

To participate, students have been invited to wear full winter uniform, including blazer, and to light a candle or put on a porch light for the dawn, or other, service, and stand in their home driveway or on their home balcony.

Students have been asked to get a family member to take a photo and email it to remotelearning@girton.vic.edu.au. You may choose to do this at any time that suits you and your family. The important thing is to send the photo to School so that we can forward this in a gallery to the Bendigo RSL.

You may also choose to listen to the dawn service on radio or online. ABC will host a two-minute reflection at 11.30am which includes The Ode, The Last Post and a one-minute silence across ABC TV, iview, radio and online. More detail is here:

Students are being encouraged to look beyond themselves at this time as a way of keeping things in perspective and nurturing a sense of their place in a world that is much bigger than the small physical space that they currently occupy.
