Year 12 Business Management - Google excursion

The Year 12 Business Management students recently visited Google’s office in Melbourne. They took the train, which was quite a long, if relaxing journey. The rain poured down as they raced through the streets of Melbourne to get to Collins Street, managing to avoid the climate activists and wave at the heavy police presence. Students were met by the Platforms Manager, Jye Hainsworth, and given a tour through their office, which consists of approximately 80 employees who are focused mainly on sales and marketing. The Google office itself is only two years old, as the main office is in Sydney. Various managers conducted presentations on aspects of the company, including its history, its focus on innovation, management styles and the treatment of employees. Students were impressed with the company’s ethos and the positive support the company gives its staff. Each student was presented with a bag of Google goodies, given a full meal courtesy of the on-site kitchen and sent on their way with notebooks overflowing with information they could apply to their studies. Everyone was very tired on the way home, but all agreed it had been an excellent day.
