Ecolinc. Year 11 Chemistry

The Chemistry class recently visited Ecolinc, Bacchus Marsh, for a full day of practical and laboratory exercises.  We analysed water samples from six points along the Werribee River, from the headwaters to the mouth, checking for a range of contaminants, including dissolved solids, metals, turbidity and salinity.  The issue of runoff containing fertilisers from the market gardening areas of Bacchus Marsh and Werribee was also considered.

Students are now using the primary data to further research the water quality of the river, and its usefulness for humans and other animals, as well as for plant growing. This research will be presented as a Scientific Poster, and is the major SAC for Unit 2 Chemistry.
