Ambassador Program

Melbourne Theatre Company’s Ambassador Program

One of our Year 11 students Angelina Stoicevski was selected to be part of the 2019 Melbourne Theatre Company’s Ambassador Program.

This is a highly coveted program and will provide Angelina with amazing opportunities throughout the year.

As part of the program this entails her attending various productions of the MTC throughout the year, being part of the student group discussions and having to promote the work of the MTC to our school community.

Angelina has already attended two productions – A View from a Bridge and The Violent Outburst That Drew Me to You.

Below is Angelina’s report on the plays she has already seen.

A View From A Bridge

This month I attended my first Melbourne Theatre Company ambassador meeting. There we discussed theatre terminologies, what the program involved and what shows we would be seeing throughout the year. Then we were taken on a tour of the company allowed to look behind the scenes in many different departments such as costumes, wigs, sets and props. Later in the evening we walked to Southbank Theatre to see the play ‘A View From A Bridge’ by Arthur Miller. The set was simple yet very effective with heavy use of lighting it appeared infinite. Along with the only prop used within the play being a single wooden chair. The realism style of theatre delivered by the actors was able to bring the plays powerful storyline to life evoking emotion captivating audiences. This was a brilliant play throughout with and amazing cast and set design. I urge anyone who has never heard of ‘A View From A Bridge’ to watch the production.

The Violent Outburst That Drew Me to You

The play ‘The Violent Outburst That Drew Me to You’ with a three person cast is a fast paced, fun and creative production. The show revolves around 16 year old Conner who is filled with rage that he struggles to control when consumed by it. After an altercation with his best friend concluding in knocking him unconscious his parents leave him alone in the woods to live in a shack for a week. There he meets someone unexpected who is just as angry as Conner and together they go to further lengths to express their anger at the world. The show explores many themes serious or not through a clever and comical script. The play surprised me through the ways it transitioned suddenly from on scene to another in such a short amount of time. The transition that amazed me the most was when the large wooden frame suddenly dropped turning into the woods. The play made me laugh and also made me feel intrigued wanting to know more the way it ended. Questioning if character Lotte was in fact real or just a figment of Conner’s imagination.
