Soiree Tuesday 18th June 6.30 - 8.00 pm

The Music Department is proud to present our Midyear Music Soiree Tuesday 18th June between 6.30 - 8.00 pm to showcase the progress of our music students from both the Instrumental Music Program and Classroom Music Program. Family and friends are encouraged to come along to support our budding musicians in a safe and supportive environment. There will be coffee and tea refreshments served in the Drama Centre before the soiree between 6 and 6.30 pm when family and friends will be able to mingle as well as meet music staff to celebrate their child's progress.

 Classroom Music Compositions & Performances

As we approach the end of the semester, classroom music students are preparing for their final and most confronting assessment task, 'Performance'. The music department is buzzing with a variety of small groups, duo's, and solo artist performances of popular and standard songs. Students are also experimenting with arranging, transcribing and composing their own pieces from applying the analysis and theory studied in previous assessment tasks. Our Year 10 music students have been using the texts they are studying in English, 'Romeo and Juliet' and 'Of Mice and Men' to derive lyrics for their original melodies and chord progressions. It has been very rewarding to see students very engaged in this creative process. We hope to have to performances of their original works at our midyear soiree.

Instrumental Music

Our new Instrumental Music Teachers have settled well and our students are responding positively with their practice. There are still places available for Brass, Woodwind, Bass & Drums. Please consider enrolling into the program. It is an excellent way to engage with the school and friends and learning an instrument is very good for your brain.

Lalor North Primary School Mass Choir Collaboration

Lalor Secondary College’s State School Spectacular [SSS] Mass Choir will be hosting a Collaborative Rehearsal session for a young neighbours from Lalor North Primary School’s SSS Mass Choir later in the term for our honourable Local MP Bronwyn Halfpenny. Our students will mentor and buddy our guests in a Team Teaching environment with Ms Robinson and Ms Wier from LNPS. This will be a taste of what it will be like to bring together Choirs who have been working independently.

Local MP Bronwyn Halfpenny visit

We are very excited that the honourable Bronwyn Halfpenny will be back to visit members of our school’s music students for the second consecutive year. Last year Ms Halfpenny was serenaded with a mini concert and she donated a $100 voucher which went towards guitar strings, leads, plectrums, batteries and music consumables to support our program. We look forward to seeing her again this year at our Mass Choir Collaborative rehearsal with LNPS.

That’s all for now. Until next time keep Musing and Music Making.
