Principal's Report

Acting Principal Report

As we enter June, a significant end of semester mark, it has been pleasing to see our students working diligently in classes and preparing for upcoming assessments and end of semester exams. For students in years 10 and 11 exams begin next week. Exam schedules have been posted on compass. For year 12 students they will sit their GAT on June 12th.

Last week we concluded the online Naplan tests at year 7 and year 9. It was wonderful to see all students trying their best, and feeling confident in their efforts. As a school, we were proud of their behaviour and conduct throughout these tests, which was exemplary.

The cold wintery blast has not put a damper on the level of wonderful excursions available to our students this past fortnight. The Year 12 students attended a Tertiary Introduction session last Tuesday, Year 8 Humanities Field work excursions to the Docklands were a huge success again this year as was our annual “Explore your Local Community fieldwork” afternoon which have been enjoyed by Year 9s. We had a group of year 10 students visit Australian Catholic University, and another group involved in ABCN Program called “Focus”. They travelled to Korn Ferry in Collins Street in the CBD. This program supports development of student leadership and allows collaboration with students from other schools.  I would like to thank all staff involved for organising these events and for continuing to create opportunities that enrich our student’s lives.

I am very proud to say that LSC were the winners of the zonal Chess Championship 2019 held on Tuesday. This event was hosted by LSC. Thank you to Ms Domm and Mr Shortall for their organisation of the day. Competition was fierce however, we were able to hold the lead and keep Hazel Glen College at bay. Well done to all competitors.

On Thursday this week, The Year 10 Careers Expo was held in the LSC Drama Centre. This information extravaganza was organised by Ms Bussell, and provided students with the opportunity to visit stalls and collect information about a variety of career pathways. Students appreciated the ability to chat in depth about specifics regarding the nature of work and the qualifications required to get them into that field of study. This event is timely as students will soon be preparing to make selections for their senior years of study and supports them in their decision making process.

We had representatives from a variety of local universities, as well as the Police Force, Victorian Fisheries and the Australian Government. A huge thank you to Ms Bussell for all the many hours spent to organise such a fantastic event for our students.

The year 10 team are still waiting on a substantial number of work Experience forms to be returned. Please check with your year 10 child to ensure they have organised a visit and have returned their forms. A reminder that work experience is a compulsory part of the year 10 program. Please do not hesitate to contact Ms Krystal Bussell, Mr Danher or visit the school website for specific details relating to the Work Experience Program or if you are having difficulty finding placements.
