Year 3 Maths

Year 3 have been learning about area in maths. Last week we used our measuring skills to make a square metre. We will use our metre guide to measure different items around the school this week. 

Year 3 Wow Wall

The Year 3 Wow Wall is an exciting initiative that highlights the accomplishments of students. It features special reading awards, examples of excellent class work and also displays extra work that students choose to do at home! Well done!

VCOP

A new focus this year to help lift our Literacy is VCOP. For those you have heard your children mention it, I thought I would explain the acronym.

V- Vocabulary. We are encouraging the children to share ‘Wow Words’ or ‘up lift’ their word choice in their writing.

When we complete an activity on vocabulary the signature colour is yellow.

C - Connectives.  Otherwise known as conjunctions. The words that connect our sentences together.

When completing an activity on connectives the signature colour is pink.

O - Openers. Openers refer to how we start a sentence or piece of writing.

The colour we use to complete opener activities is blue.

P - Punctuation. The punctuation pyramid is put up completed so that all students are exposed to all the levels of punctuation. The children have also learned ‘Kungfu  Punctuation’ which has a movement associated with each punctuation element. (The children are quite good at this)

Below are examples of VCOP displays in Year 1 and Year 3. The displays are a work in progress as all suggestions for VCOP come from the children.
