A Word from Tanya

Dear Families,
Curriculum Day
Just a reminder that Friday November 1st will be our final Curriculum Day. This is a student free day. Staff will be planning for 2020.
Year 6 Dinner
The best Italian/Mexican restaurant in the hills was open for business on Monday night! The Year 6 team came together as one to prepare a delicious three course meal for their families. Please see the amazing menu later in the newsletter!
It was an incredible team effort by the students and wonderfully supported by their teachers Christy, Ashlea and Justin as well as brilliant organization by Tania and support of Kellie and Annika during the day and Mel and Shelley at night! We are so grateful to all of you!
EDEC Rotary Speech Contest
Menzies Creek hosted the competition this year and I was so proud of Ashlee and Myles as they presented their speeches.
Thank you to Christy for attending and providing support.
It was also the first time that Rotary had done Acknowledgement to Country at the event and I was so delighted that Ashlee confidently did this. Added to this she presented a beautiful speech about how much better the world would be if we were all kind to one another.
Excitement was high when Myles was announced as the winning speech for the night. I was so proud of him. He spoke so passionately and confidently about Tourette’s syndrome and tics. Myles will now advance to the next stage.
Alternate Program
Historically the Monday prior to Cup Day has been low in attendance due to many work places having this day rostered off and hence families taking the opportunity to have a long weekend. Those children attending on the Monday will be involved in an alternate program of activities.
Hats and Uniform
Thank you to families for your support with hats on and also with adhering to uniform code. It is appreciated.
School Crossing
It is always a concern for Phillip, staff and other families when many children cross with their parents at varying locations along the front of the school, none of which are the crossing. This is highly dangerous and also not setting the role model for safety guidelines. We have the crossing for a purpose and we would hate to lose it because people are not using it as they should. It took many years of hard work to get it but it is always being evaluated by the Shire as to need.
Planning for 2020
Planning is now commencing for the 2020 school year and families are very welcome to write to me outlining any relevant educational considerations for next year. I ask that written requests are based on educational grounds and reach me by Thursday October 31st. Any request I receive will be carefully considered by myself and all relevant staff, however I need to emphasize that teachers spend a considerable amount of time and effort in placing students into classes for the following year and therefore staff recommendations will be a priority in relation to student class allocation.
Family Festival - Saturday November 16th
Come and join in the fun and bring family and friends! It promises to be a huge day!
Please complete rosters to assist and read carefully all requirements needed on the day. Your support would be greatly appreciated. Please drop in or email your child’s teacher to have your name placed on a roster for the class stall. We can’t make it happen without you!
IS YOUR CHILD STARTING SECONDARY SCHOOL NEXT YEAR?
Families of our Year 6 students will tell you that it doesn’t seem that long ago that their child was starting school. The primary years seem to fly by and our Year sixes are already two weeks into their final term of primary school.
Secondary school can be a daunting thought for not only our students but families as well. There are many questions, which I’m sure you have, which are not fully answered at information nights and orientation days.
The Department of Education and Training have developed an informative site, which provides hints and tips on how to support your child through the transition to secondary school. The site is https://www.education.vic.gov.au/parents/going-to-school/Pages/tips-starting-school.aspx
UPDATE CONTACT DETAILS
With fire season fast approaching it is a good time to remind our families to ensure that all your details are up to date at the school. If you have changed address, got a new phone number or have a new alternative contact please contact the office to give us the details so that we are able to contact you if required.
Assembly - 3/4A and 1/2M will be presenting. All families are welcome.
Have a wonderful week
Take care
Tanya
