Dads' Camp 2022

2nd - 4th December 2022

Dear SKIPPS Parents,

By this time of the year, SKIPPS students and parents are settling into the last term, getting ready for Summer, the start of camp season, and of course, the annual Dads Camp!

For the benefit of new parents to the school, 8 years ago a small group of dedicated Dads developed a tradition of taking their kids down to the Anglesea Caravan and Camp site for a weekend of activities, food, music, movies and general fun in the sun. The weekend usually took place sometime in November/December. Over the years the camp has grown from a small group of Dads & kids to over 300 dads/co-parents/carers and kids attending the 2019 camp. To be clear, this is NOT a school organised event but a privately coordinated event.

We are happy to confirm that this year’s Dad’s & Carer’s Camp will be held over the weekend of Friday 2nd to Sunday 4th December 2022.

Due to the rapidly changing events of last year, the 2021 Wye River camp was smaller than previous years with only 170 attendees (60 adults + 110 kids). However, this year we are planning for approximately 300 attendees (100 adults + 200 kids).

This year the camp will be again held in Wye River, however, we have chosen the bigger BIG 4 HOLIDAY PARK on the Great Ocean Road, which has more facilities. With beach and mountains as your backdrop, Wye River is a picturesque camping spot.  Located right on the beach and just 20 minutes from Lorne, or 35 minutes from Apollo Bay, it's an easy 2-hour drive from Melbourne. The campsite is located behind the famous Wye River General store, café and near the pub which overlooks the incredible beach and rockpools.

A Try-Booking site will open from 27th until 29th October with details below. Fees will include 2 nights camp-site accommodation (BYO Tent & camping gear) plus breakfast on Saturday & Sunday and BBQ Dinner on Saturday night. This year’s theme will be Hero’s & Villains and we encourage parents and kids to bring their costume of choice for the Saturday evening to add to the fun atmosphere.

Space is always limited therefore sites will be strictly reserved on a first come first served basis. Please remember the booking dates to avoid disappointment. We will attempt to accommodate two families who wish to book as 1 group to be on the same camp site for up to 6 people (two tents max).

IMPORTANT REMINDER: This is not a school event, and no school staff will be in attendance and parents are responsible for the supervision of their own children at all times, especially around the small river which runs through the middle of the campsite and of course at the beach.
