KIOSC Excursion

Year 9 and our Year 8, WISE (Women In Science Engineering) students attended a Forensic Science Excursion to KIOSC in the last few weeks of Term 4.

It was a fantastic day for all the students who learned how to lift and process fingerprints, take shoe impressions, determine (simulated) blood-types, and conduct a gel electrophoresis analysis of DNA. They started the day with an introduction to forensic investigations from a former forensic investigator for the NSW police service and moved through fieldwork, lab-work and investigation components of a full forensic investigation.

A simulated crime scene and dressing the part allowed our junior investigators to get closer to the real experience of a forensic investigation. A special Q&A session was held at lunchtime for the WISE participants to expand their career horizons.
