YOUNG LIFE TEAM VISIT BHCS

By Peter Cliffe (Principal)

Our Year 7 and 8 students enjoyed a free sausage sizzle and some activities with volunteers from Young Life during this week. The Young Life team at BHCS is led by Andrew Edmonds, along with a number of young adult volunteers. Andrew is a member of the BHCS school council and a board member of Young Life Australia,  Andrew and his team of volunteer mentors aim to be at BHCS on a regular basis at lunchtime to come alongside our students to offer a listening ear, an understanding heart, eyes that see potential and a powerful message of hope.

Information about the upcoming Young Life camp in January is contained in this newsletter.

KINDER BOX CAR & DRIVE-IN MOVIE

By Kirsty Meese (Kinder Director)

Do you know how fabulous our Kinder Families and the Discovery Centre Team are?

At the beginning of term I approached our Discovery Centre Team about organising a box car making session, followed by a drive in movie and might they be able to accommodate us. And I asked the Kinder families if they could supply their children with boxes large enough to fit in but not too big to carry.

On Thursday 11th November, the Kinder students arrived at Kinder with their boxes and extra ones in case anyone in the class had forgotten (Team Kinder is a wonderful community). You could feel the excitement in the foyer as I opened the Kinder door. Once everyone had arrived we wasted no time in getting organised to carry our boxes to the Discovery Centre. But carrying cardboard boxes a long way with little arms sounds easier than it is. Empty boxes strangely get heavier the longer you hold them!!

After a few arm breaks we arrived at the Discovery Centre to be in awe of all of the fabulous resources that the Discovery Centre Team had provided to turn our boxes into cars. There was a flurry of excitement, chatter, sticky tape and box saws as the box started to form the shapes of cars. There were seat belts, windows, window screen wipers, holes made for legs, car doors, exhaust, go faster stripes, the ideas were flying.

After our cars were made we carefully drove them back to Kinder, where we had to make a few repairs before parking them in the multi-storey car park until the following week - ready for our drive-in movie.
