Final events for senior students
What a privilege it was last week to work closely with our senior students as they finished their formal classes for 2022. There were a number of significant events held during the week including surprise dress-up days, breakfasts, meetings and final classes. All these events were fantastic, but the key highlights were the Graduation Mass and Supper held on Tuesday 25 October and then our very emotional final assemblies and Belling Out.
Our Year 12 students can be extremely proud of how they finished their time with us, and we look forward to supporting them during the upcoming exam period. The year is not over yet with our Senior School Prize Giving taking place on Monday 5 December.
Exams
Although our formal exam period will not commence for students until next week, I had the privilege of witnessing our senior students complete their music and drama recitals last week. The quality of the performances was outstanding. It never ceases to amaze me how much talent our young people possess and are willing to share.
Key dates:
Year 11/12 Swotvac
31 October - 7 November
Year 11/12 TASC exams
8 November - 18 November
Student achievements
We congratulate the following students for their contribution to the College. Well done!
- Alicia Dale (Year 9) recently crowned the best under 14 girls’ tennis player in the country. Alicia won the under-14 Rafa Nadal Tour Masters’ event in Melbourne in January and was lucky to spend time with international star Rafael Nadal at the Rafa Nadal Academy in Mallorca for a two-week training camp.
- Davina Cox (Year 10) recently attended Canberra to attend the Work Exposure in Government (WEX) program. The program provides Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in Years 10, 11 and 12 with hands on experience and information about job opportunities and career pathways in the Australian Government.
- Taylah Hayes (Year 10) is currently representing Australia as a cadet at the Perth Oceania Open 2022 for Judo. In news just in, we are thrilled to confirm that Taylah has won gold at the event!
- Danae Rainsford (Year 9) recently competed in the National Schools Judo Championships, Gold Coast in September.
I encourage all students to advise the College of their achievements.
Meet the Principal Tours
The last 'Meet the Principal Tour' for 2022 will be held on Friday 4 November at 9.30am. The session commences with a meeting and presentation by me, followed by a College tour by student leaders so parents/carers have the opportunity to speak to students and staff, and see what we do during a day at St Mary’s College.
