Senior State Cricket semi-final

Senior Girls Cricket State Semi Final

On a beautiful 22-degree sunny day back in October our senior girls took the field in the state semi-final. This is the furthest in the School Sport Victoria competition that one of our cricket teams has progressed. Our task was to beat Strathmore High School and hopefully make it to the grand final. Strathmore won the toss and elected to bat. Their runs came quickly but were stemmed by wickets to Minnie, Rose and excellent fielding from our team. Strathmore finished 5 /137 which we considered a gettable target. Our run chase got off to a great start with Minnie and Amelie sharing the strike and collecting a few boundaries, ensuring we started ahead of the expected run rate. Amelie was caught behind on 11 and Rose came on and picked up the role of turning over the strike for Minnie who was scoring well. A few quick wickets saw us stumble at 3/69, Ayda (13) and Eva (21) helped adding to our score and supporting Minnie to a run a ball 43, however with each wicket the run rate slowed and we were left 10 runs short at the end of the 20 over 8/127. It has been an absolute pleasure to support this team who have displayed outstanding team spirit and support of each other and the teams they have played against.

Year 8 Regional Basketball

Just before Cup weekend, the Year 7 basketball boys hit the court at Coburg Basketball Stadium, to take on other schools in our region! The first game was against Coburg who were a competitive opponent but we scraped through and won by 1 point! Our second game was against Hazel Glen and we beat them comfortably. Our third and final game was against Viewbank our rival school, unfortunately we lost to them, meaning we couldn’t play finals. Overall it was a fun, enjoyable day and a special shout out to Wim Lobb for taking a key part in the team and top scoring in all games!

Year 7 Regional Hockey

Year 7 girls hockey played exceptionally well in their first experience of Hockey. In both games the girls were super competitive and improved across the day. In the end, the girls lost to Melbourne girls college 2-0 and beat Hazel Glen 1-0. Ruby Newnham and Madeleine Courtney were the stars of the day with Georgia Barlow proving to be very strong in defense.

The Year 7 boys side played in cold, rainy conditions against Hume AG, Princes Hill, Hazel Glen at Greensborough hockey fields. With some from the girls side helping out along the way. The team didn't manage a win but each game was competitive. They impressively stuck to their formation and maintained possession more and more each game. All had barely any hockey experience but relished the opportunity to try out a new sport including being wrapped top-to-toe in padding for goalkeeper.

Year 7 Table Tennis

Our Year 7 Boys had a great day out recently at the Regional Competition. They had some competitive matches and always showed fantastic support and great teamwork. The boys won their way through finishing the day as overall winners. They now move through to the state final which is to be played at MSAC on Nov 25.  Congratulations boys, we wish you well at the State Final.

Year 9 /10 Girls State Quarter Cricket Final

The intermediate girls cricket team travelled to Bendigo to play against a school from Mildura. Acacia lost the toss and the opposition elected to bat. The girls bowled and fielded exceptionally well restricting the opposition to 7/73 from their 20 overs. The standouts in the innings were Meg Orr 3 wickets, Amie Stapleton 2 wickets and Ayda Canon 3 catches as keeper. The girls chased down the total in 13 overs with Meg Orr making 24 and Ayda Canon 29 not out. The girls head into the state semi finals next friday with a real shot of taking home the state title.
