CURRICULUM FOCUS

In Maths this week we are learning how to partition.

VOCABULARY

Partition: When you break a larger number into smaller parts.

For example: 6 can be broken into:

  • 4 and 2
  • 3 and 3
  • 5 and 1
  • 6 and 0

ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

Using objects or materials in your home show the different ways to make and break apart numbers.

  1. Choose a number less than 10.
  2. Find that many of an object. For example, the number 6 and find 6 spoons.
  3. Use the 6 spoons to break the number into two parts. For example, 3 and 3.
  4. Write down all the different ways you were able to break apart the number.
