Dear Parents and Carers,

I’m pleased to announce to the community the allocation of $1 Million dollars to Somerville Primary School. These funds will go into a new Basketball Court Roof. School Council will be working alongside the Victorian School Building Authority to deliver this project over the next 18 months. I’m sure everyone is looking forward to having a dry, flexible space for our school! The allocation of this money means that other projects can be prioritised. Early next term School Council will be sending out the plans we have for the next 18 months.

Next week instead of Assembly we will be having an open afternoon, this is an opportunity for the community to come into classrooms, have a look at the amazing learning that happens at Somerville Primary School. Somerville PS have a very proud history of being welcoming and working in partnership with our community, this is a trait we are looking to foster and further develop. Classrooms will be open for any visitors from 2:30pm.

Over the last few weeks we have had a number of staff and students off sick. We appreciate you keeping children home when they are unwell.

All throughout the school, our students are demonstrating a thirst for knowledge.

  • The Prep students have been working on transferring their Reading skills and phonological awareness into their writing.
  • The Grade 1’s blew me away with their Maths knowledge when we were playing Dice Games last week.
  • The Grade 2’s completed an exciting incursion based around physics, technology and building.
  • The Grade 3’s have been working on Information Reports with Endangered Animals.
  • The Grade 4’s have been learning about Geography as they get ready to go to the Cranbourne Botanic Gardens for an excursion. They have also been planning their own journey around Australia.
  • The 5-6’s have worked incredibly hard on their Geography unit, alongside Reading and Maths and getting ready for a Showcase in the last week of Term 2.

Across the whole school our students excelling in their learning.

As part of our school Smile Squad Dental Van visit we have had more than 50% of our students seen this Term. If you would like your child to see the Dentist at school, please click the link below or collect the paperwork from the office.

Our super star students are smashing their reading nights & Congratulations to our Somerville Star Award achievers

Well done to all of our students who represented Somerville Primary School in the District Cross Country; everyone demonstrated outstanding sportsperson-ship. Both Shane and I wish our 5-6 students all the very best with Lightning Prem tomorrow.

As we head into Winter, with more people driving to drop children off; can we ask all parents to be mindful when driving and parking around the school, there have been a number of close calls both on Eramosa Road and Roslyn Street. The Mornington Shire have said they will be sending out parking inspectors over coming weeks to complete a blitz. Please by mindful that you cannot park opposite a dividing line unless there is at least three metres between your vehicle and the line. The Kiss and Go Zone is a 2 Minute parking space, it is not designed or designated for parking whereby you walk into the school. If you would like to come in, and everyone is more than welcome to come in, please park further down Eramosa Road. Thank you for your support with this.

If you have a child who will be attending Somerville Primary in Prep for 2024, can you please collect enrolment forms from the office. Anne Goodman our Prep Transition Leader is beginning to plan Kinder/childcare/day-care visits for Term 3.  We are also getting sizing ready for our Somerville Star Polos the 2024 Preps will wear as part of their Transition.

Have a great weekend,

David and Shane
