Year 10 Love of Literature - 2nd May

Our Year 10 Love of Literature elective students went to the Arts Centre to see the Bell Shakespeare Company production of Macbeth. It was wonderful to see the play and see our Year 10 students enjoy a live performance of the play they are studying; plays are always meant to be seen, not just studied. The students' behaviour was delightful and Mr and Mrs Evans and Ms Auty were proud to be with them for the evening.

Year 11 Art Excursion - 15th May

Our Year 11 Art students visited the Ian Potter Centre - NGV. This began with a lecture by an NGV educator who spoke about the top VCE 2022 Art students and what they may have been trying to communicate within their diverse works using a range of styles and techniques. We then viewed the exhibition folios and exhibition.  We were very lucky to also view the amazing "Melbourne Now" exhibition in the same gallery.

Here is some of what students had to say:

I was inspired by the Melbourne Now artwork named "Temple" Room by artist Rei Pham.  This digital installation artwork that was so engaging I didn't want to leave. - Natalija

Viewing the VCE artist folios today inspired me.  In particular, the artwork by Casper Plum made innovative choices with his artwork and inspired me to do the same.  This experience will stick with me always. - Camryn

I want today to last forever. I loved seeing the artist portfolios and I think it's so cool that these students were just like us.  I was exposed to so many different kinds of art and techniques and really enjoyed the different pieces. I am grateful for this experience.  It was so good!  - Gracelene

Today was very insightful and inspiring and I am grateful for this experience. - Therese

Year 10 Volunteer at Wellsprings - 15th May

Our Year 10 students have been volunteering for Wellsprings for Women in Dandenong since the start of the term and we are so grateful for the opportunity.  In groups of ten, we make our way there on a Monday afternoon and Nilofar is a friendly face who greets us and logs us in as visitors. Gladys then gets them in pairs to work in computer classes, language classes, admin work, crafts, gardening, cooking or creche.

We know that these classes and service are empowering women in the Dandenong area and we hope to be able to continue our visits for the rest of the year.

Year 10 Drawing & Sculpture Excursion - 17th May

Our Year 10 Drawing and Sculpture students had a fabulous time at McClelland Sculpture Park and Gallery.  We had a great tour around the sculpture park and lots of fun listening to the noise and music of some sculptures and watching the movement of kinetic sculptures. Students also improved their observational drawing skills during the day. Please enjoy these photos and some comments by the students about the day.

Here is some of what the art students had to say.

Mc Clelland Gallery was a unique and informative experience.  The sculptures ranged from realistic to abstract, all of the very interesting.  Many of my favourite sculptures used metals and were abstract.  I liked them because of their innovative and creative approaches to representing meaning.  They were also visually pleasing.  Some standouts from the excursion were the 'Tree of Life' sculpture and the steel ram head.  All in all, a relaxing and very informative experience in our drawing and sculpture class. - Jessica

The Mc Clelland Gallery was a really relaxing and peaceful experience.  Throughout our entire excursion, I was constantly learning and viewing art that I'd never seen before.  Each work had a unique story and historical background.  We had a tour with a very informative speaker talking about the history of artworks, materials and concepts of the work.  - Kaylene

Experiencing Mc Clelland Gallery was a wonderful nature-filled time.  I felt very involved with all the sculptures and was educated about each and every story behind their creation. The artist's talents and story combined with nature was a one-in-a-lifetime experience. - Alyssa

I loved how the art was interactive, adding sound and different senses to the sculptural artwork.  The engineering behind the construction of artwork was cool too. - Alika

It was a fun and very interactive trip.  Some sculptures were kinetic and moved while some even made sounds. - Jennifer

We would like to thank Mrs Dallas and Mrs Pearson for organising this and coming with us on the day.

Market Week - 15th to 19th May

In Unit 1 of Business Management, we all had to split ourselves into mini groups and create a small business. My group chose to sell hair clips, as we decided they can be very popular amongst high school students. The small business allowed me to put my understanding of what we had learned into practice in a realistic and practical way with an aim to raise the most amount of money for Project Compassion.

One of the biggest challenges we faced as a business was deciding on the number of clips we should buy and the price point we should set. We also had to ensure the stock would last us all week without having a large number of leftover clips. I found that aspect very realistic, as every time a business owner buys something they hope that they sell it in order to make a profit. We all collaboratively worked together, however, we took on individual jobs for ourselves.

My job was in finance which involved a lot of responsibility. I had to ensure that we were going to make a profit and that we weren’t spending too much. Overall, Market Week has been a really rewarding experience that has taught me a lot about the risks, responsibilities, and realities of owning my own business.
