Founder's Day - Friday 9 June
We would like to advise parents/carers of the following:
- Compulsory attendance by all boys in full Winter College uniform is expected. Parents/carers should contact their son’s Year Coordinator days in advance to discuss any potential issue with their son’s attendance. Boys who are absent on the day will be required to obtain a medical certificate and upload it to the TASS Parent Lounge.
- Boys are required to attend school at the normal time, and they will be dismissed at approximately 2:00 PM. Parents/carers may collect their son/s as follows:
* Berg, Coghlan, Crichton - from Kiss and Ride on Fraser Street |
* Hanrahan, Hickey, Rice - from Francis Street Bus Bay |
- Younger boys will be escorted down to Strathfield station by members of the College’s Student Leadership Team. There will be two locations for Kiss and Ride on the day to assist with collection of students after dismissal.
- Boys will be expected to be in attendance for the Founder’s Day Mass, Concert and Waterford Mile.
- Canteen facilities will be CLOSED on this day; students will receive lunch (meat pie and sausage roll) plus additional snack items (chocolate) and a drink provided by the College.
- Boys will not be required to bring bags/belongings to school on this day. However, students may bring a small bag with small food items and competitors in the annual Waterford Mile who can store any clothes in their lockers.
If there are any concerns about dietary requirements, please contact either Mr Sinadinos on alexandros.sinadinos@spc.nsw.edu.au or Mrs Viney on ingrid.viney@spc.nsw.edu.au.
Batyr Presentation - Wednesday 31 May
Did you know that three in four mental health problems emerge before the age of 25 and students with mental ill-health miss on average close to five weeks of school time per year?
Last Wednesday, BATYR visited our young men of Year 10 to address prevention and stigma reduction associated with mental health. A company that has a passionate and growing team of 1000 plus young storytellers, our boys were able to witness these highly skilled and trained presenters share their experiences. Some of the key issues were based around empowering young people with the confidence and necessary skills to overcome adversity and also highlight the importance of positive mental health and well-being.
Our boys enjoyed the interactive and engaging presentation with a strengths-based approach and so many positively framed messages. These stories shared were carefully developed in order to focus on themes of hope and resilience and the positive outcomes of reaching out for support. We thank BATYR and we look forward to a continued connection with a company that prides itself on real-life lived experiences of young people overcoming mental ill-health.
I thank Mr Simpson and Mrs Donnelly for their organisation of this event.
