Deputy Principal

Last week we had the opportunity to celebrate two significant events in the life of the College. Our assembly on Friday was dedicated to Reconciliation as a part of Reconciliation Week. We heard from guest speaker Christopher Duncan, Associate Lecturer (Indigenous) from Australian Catholic University (ACU). He spoke to the assembly about reconciliation and celebrating our Indigenous heritage. He gave us examples of the Sydney Olympics and Rugby Union and Cricket test matches.

The theme of Reconciliation week this year was ‘Be A Voice For Generations’. I challenged the students that to be a truly inclusive community based in the traditions of Edmund Rice that we must allow everyone’s voice to be heard. We must embrace the voices of our First Nations brothers and sisters so that we can work cooperatively together to ensure we are a nation that is united moving forward for the best outcomes of all Australians.

Last week I was also privileged to attend the SPC production of Shakespeare in Love. It was a night of laughs from a tremendously talented group of students and staff. From the costumes to the lighting, the set and music were all done so professionally. Seeing the talented young men and women on stage was captivating. I am so proud to work at a school that celebrates drama and the arts. I look forward to next year’s musical. Congratulations to everyone involved in this production.
