The focus for the first half of the term in Physical Education has been Cross Country. The enthusiasm across the school and comradery amongst the 4 houses was wonderful to see. The emphasis for all students is to ‘have a go’ and enjoy the day. While there were students who spent a large portion of the cross-country walking and chatting with friends, we also had some serious runners who achieved some impressive results. Our 60 qualifiers for District Cross Country (competing against 10 students from each of the 7 school within our local district) were then whittled down to 6 students, who finished top 10 in their age groups’ and qualified to the next level, Division. It is a remarkable effort to make it that far and I congratulate Semrah 3G, Sebastian 5E, Yuna 4WB, Eugene 6C, Max 4S and Lena 6M on your achievement and representing the school so admirably on the day and giving your best effort. However, for 2 students their cross-country journey continues onto Regionals on Tuesday 13th June. Best of luck to both Seb and Yuna who both finished 9th at Division. We are all incredibly proud of your achievements.
The Prep – 2 students have been developing their jump rope technique and completing a series of gymnastics circuits in Physical Education during the term. This has included an array of balances across the balance beam, an arabesque, tree pose and learning about different gymnastics positions. Some of these have included the tuck sit, pike, L-sit, long sit, front and rear supports and straddle. Students have learnt how to jump and land safely using a motorbike landing off different equipment, such as mini trampolines, springboards and the vaulting box. They have also completed locomotion activities such as the commando crawl, forward roll and log roll.
