Uniform orders are filled on Tuesdays.

Completed order forms need to be at the school office by Friday for orders to be filled and delivered to your child by Tuesday.

The Japanese Word of the Fortnight

がんばって (pronounced ‘ganbatte’) which means ‘Good luck / Do your best / Hang in there’ is the Japanese Word for Week 5 & 6 of Term 2. You can say ‘がんばって’ (ganbatte) when you’d like to encourage someone to do well and complete tasks.

Thank you / ありがとうございます (pronounced ‘aligatoh gozaimas’) for your continuing support for our Japanese program.

WASTE FREE WEDNESDAY

SOCIAL SERVICE

Thank you to everyone who donated to Social Service. It was great to see so many donations being collected for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation. The total this week was over $175!

The classes that donated were Prep A, Prep D, 1A, 2A, 2C, 2D, 3A, 3B, 3C, 3D, 4B, 4C 5B and 5C. We are awarding the class who collects the most money each week with a champions trophy.

The winner of the Social Service Champions trophy this week was 3D! Well done!

TRAFFIC DELAYS

There will be traffic management on Tucker Road near the intersection of Ellen Street for approximately 4 weeks. Please note there will be delays to north and southbound traffic.

Traffic impacts

Sewer upgrade works will start on Tucker Road 29 May 2023. Traffic will be reduced to a single lane heading north between St James Avenue and Huntingdon Street. Please allow extra time for travel and follow the directions from traffic management.
Through traffic from Tucker Road to East Boundary Road via Ellen Street will be closed in stages for up to 6 months from 29 May 2023 for sewer upgrade works. There will be no throughfare to East Boundary Road until November 2023 (weather permitting).
To complete works in McKinnon Reserve, traffic travelling north on Tucker Road between St. James Avenue and Huntingdon Street will be reduced to a single lane for approximately 4 weeks from 29 May to the end of June 2023 (weather permitting).
South East Water is upgrading the ageing Elster Creek sewer on Ellen Street, Malane Street, Charles Street, Daphne Street and Laurel Street, Bentleigh East to increase the capacity of the sewer network to cater for population growth in the area and future proof the sewerage system.
Road users who regularly use Ellen Street, Malane Street and Charles Street to travel between Tucker Road and East Boundary Road will notice road access is closed. These road closures will be in place for up to 6 months (weather permitting) while the Elster Creek Sewer upgrade is underway. Pedestrian access will not be affected. Please follow signage and detours that are in place and travel safely near work zones.
Access to street parking along Ellen Street, Malane Street, Charles Street, Daphne Street, Laurel Street will be limited during Elster Creek Sewer Upgrade works. Parking will be reserved / permitted for residents only during construction. Alternative parking may be found on Bevis Street, Malane Street south of May Street as well as Hemingford Road.

CAMPS SPORTS AND EXCURSION FUND

If you are new to Valkstone Primary School (or an existing family with a new sibling starting at Valkstone) and you are the holder of a Health Care Card, you may be eligible for CSEF.

This is an annual payment, payable to the school, to be used towards camps, sports or excursion costs for eligible students.

Card holders with new Prep students are also eligible for some school uniform. Please bring your Health Care Card to the office and complete an eligibility form.
