From the School Leadership Team,

From Mr. Chant,

Principal

This week we have welcomed the judging panel for the annual Berthe Mouchette poetry competition. The exams were held yesterday and our senior students were able to recite their verse with confidence and to a high level. Well done to all  our participants and thanks to the organising team for making this opportunity possible.

Next week we are opening the school and welcoming the community to our open air assembly, providing an information session to new and prospective families and encouraging families to stay and play after school (on their designated evening) to promote an active community and a chance for families to enjoy some time together.

Education Week schedule:

The Professional learning Community model being used by our staff has focussed on Reading Instruction and teacher observations of their peers around how reading is taught across the school. This important work is supported by our use of ongoing assessments and analysing these results to modify the explicit classroom instruction for our students.

Student progress reports are being prepared and will be available on Compass later in the term and bookings for Parent Teacher interviews will be accessed the same way. Interviews will be available on-site and via the Zoom platform.  Further information will be provided shortly.

Our volunteers are working across the school and their impact and support has been fantastic. Volunteers are reminded to sign in at the office and must have a current WWCC to come on site. This important safeguard is a DET requirement and ensures the safety of our students.

Rock Bottom windcheaters and hoodies that were ordered before the 6th May were delivered to the classrooms today. Please check your children’s bags and ensure you label the item. Orders placed after this date have not yet arrived from the supplier.

If you know of anyone who may be interested in sponsoring the school production please contact the school.

We have been running the Cancer Council Biggest Morning Tea, with the staff, at CJC for the past few years. This year the staff at CJC and TeamKids are joining forces. Together we can raise funds for this very worthwhile cause.

From Mme. Pommier,

French Director.

Concours Berthe Mouchette 2021

Queensland leaders visit 27 May

Congratulations to our finalists in the AEFE competition - Asian Territories 2021

CJC students have participated in a competition titled Asian Territories organised by the French lycée in Jakarta. We are pleased to announce that two of our students were selected as finalists: Liam (4G) and Pauline (4F).

Berthe Mouchette Competition 2021

Our students have risen to the challenge in the century-old Berthe Mouchette competition.  We hope that this year will see many of our students selected as finalists. Thank you to our school captains and our cultural liaison leaders for their professionalism and their many words of encouragement to the participants. Bravo to Anne-Cécile for her work in organising this event. The results will be revealed at the end of June, the selected finalists will perform another audition on August 15.

Visit from the Department of Education

Caulfield Junior College is part of the Department of Education’s network of bilingual and binational schools. For the first time, Chris and myself were invited to speak at a DET meeting to disclose the specific challenges of binational programs, such as recruitment during Covid restrictions and the translation of documents. A member from the Victorian Institute of Teaching (organisation regulating the validation and recognition of our French teachers’ diplomas) was also invited, with an objective of improving communication and mutual understanding.

A positive step towards a more efficient integration of our French teachers and the quality of our program.

Queensland leaders’ visit on May 27

On May 27, Samantha Donovan, Assistant to the Regional Director of the Department of Education Queensland, will pay a visit to our school with her team to find inspiration from our unique bilingual teaching model.  Indeed, CJC’s model is a thriving success in the field of bilingual education in Australia. We are always pleased to welcome the stakeholders of binational education and this event should bring valuable exchanges to all parties involved.
