RELIGIOUS EDUCATION

This week we are celebrating 200 Years of Catholic Education in Australia. Six students from the Year 6 Leadership group attended Celebratory Mass at St Patrick’s Cathedral in Ballarat yesterday. Students and staff from Sacred Heart, St Mary’s, St Brendan’s and Trinity College travelled to Ballarat together for the special occasion.

In the Liturgical calendar, May is the month of Mary, the Patron of Australia. May 24, the Feast of Our Lady Help of Christians is significant in the history of Australian Catholic faith. During Australia’s early European settlement, no priests were sent to the colony. Without Mass, Christians maintained their faith reciting the Rosary Prayer, relating to the challenges or celebrations in life and in the life of Jesus and his Mother, Mary.

Throughout this week we will continue to celebrate with a visit from the Trinity College Band and with a Dress up Thursday 27. The whole school, both students and staff will be dressing up in 19th century costumes and will be participating in some traditional games and activities.
