Chess Club

For the first time in the College history, representatives of the Chess Club have skillfully managed for McCarthy Catholic College to progress to Round 3 of the NSW Regional Secondary school Chess competition. Well done to the College representative players of Elih Griffiths, Tho Trung Kien (Kevin) Bui, Dung Anh (Tom) Vuong and Damon Williams, as they defeated Oxley High School 3 games to one. The next round will be against St Mary’s, Gunnedah, which will prove their biggest challenge yet.

Both St Mary’s and Oxley High School are schools, which we play regularly against. For this term, the Chess Club will start to play weekly virtual chess games against O’Connor Catholic College, Armidale. There are plans for the end of the term or early next term for face-to-face games against the two schools. Games are also being organised against Carinya Christian School.

Big thanks go to those players who are not part of the representative team, but still travel in support and play against players from other schools. Each game helps develop their skills and they have been excellent ambassadors for the College. We currently have around 10 players in the Chess club.

The Chess clubs runs every Tuesday and Friday Lunch. New players are welcome.
