Getting to Know…

Mrs Sahib

Grade 3 Teacher

What is your favourite season and why?

My favourite season would have to be autumn because I love how beautiful the trees look when the leaves start to change colour.  As a kid, I used to rake up all the leaves on our front lawn and them jump into them!

If you could trade places with anyone for a day, who would you choose?

If I could trade places with anyone for a day it would definitely have to be my cat.  I think she lives a very relaxed life.  She sleeps for most of the day, gets to flop around the house, eats yummy food and most of all she doesn’t have to clean up after herself.

What do you love about working at BBPS?

The people!  One of the things that makes BBPS so special is the wonderful community of teachers, students and parents.  It makes you feel like you are apart of something special. What is a song/piece of music that makes you feel happy?

While I can’t pick one specific song, one thing that makes me feel really happy is waking up before sunrise, sitting outside with a hot cup coffee and watching the sunrise while most of the world is still asleep. If you could choose a superpower, what would it be?

If could choose a superpower it would be the power to teleport!  This would mean that I could go and visit my family in Canada whenever I want, it also means I wouldn’t have to sit in traffic every day.

What are you most grateful for?

I am most grateful for all the special people in my life who make me feel loved and put a smile on my fact.  Also, I can’t forget about my cat, I’m most grateful for her warm cuddles.

Isabel and Teddy shared what they love the most about Prep at the moment.

Isabel's favourite thing is Investigations because she likes doing the hama beads (great for fine motor!) and gets to take them home. Teddy loves sport and running. Everyone did the Beep test this week, and Teddy was thrilled that 'he made it'!

Grades 1 and 2

Harry H 1C "We are having Nude Food Thursday. We don't want much plastic in our bins so it doesn't go into the planet because it will make the creatures die"

Xander 1C "In my lunchbox today I have some carrots, an easter egg, some apple and a scroll, but there is NO PLASTIC"

This is the second week of this great initiative, as part of this term's inquiry focus.  Well done also to all students who presented their weather reports - there has been some tumultuous weather across Melbourne of late!

Jake 1C "I've liked playing Brain Flipper in Maths" and Milena 1C "Adding different coloured balloons to twenty for a party".

A report from Lachie, Fletcher and Aubrey (2C): We've been learning lots of things about sea horses like that they eat krill, up to 3000 a day. Maths has been their favourite this week because Ms T has been coming in and doing fun activities to help with addition. And reading has been fun because they have started book club and get to read independently and 'go into another world'.

Grades 3 and 4

Harper and Ethan (3S) are currently thrilled by their geology inquiry unit and enjoyed learning about different types of rocks in this week's incursion.

Luca (3C) is proud of his efforts in NAPLAN, and Noah has enjoyed writing narratives - he is proud of his narrative 'In the Middle of the Night'.

Lia and Tavneet are excited about their newly arrived 'JEMM+' books - a Maths work and data collection book focused on unpacking mistakes and understanding strategies to solve maths problems. They shared that when you learn about where you went wrong, you can 'put the bug to bed'.

Well done to Christian from 4B who completed a 6km run on the Great Ocean Road!

Grade 6 Action Projects are up and running, with Lunch Clubs are actively being facilitated by our leaders for students across the school. Our leaders are quickly learning the art of marketing, communication and resource preparation to ensure that they have a strong participation level from their peers.

P-1 Clubs include: Craft; Tabloid Sports; Auskick; Chess; Tour of the World; Drama Time; Art Club

2-5 Clubs include: Tabloid Sports; Indoor Sports; Coding; ICT and Art Club

These are offered on different days throughout the week, and teachers have timetables in their classrooms to help direct students to some of the great activities on offer.

Slade and Nick talked about the current focus in grade 6 on building an understanding of themselves as learners, and their ability to self-regulate and what this means. For example, Nick is a visual learner so learns best when he can see it.
