News from Nurse Jess

Hello all,

Well this week has shown us just how quickly things can turn! Sigh! But hopefully this is just a small period of time for some extra precautions then we can get back to enjoying our days restriction free as we have been blessed with recently. Positive thoughts!!

As we enter the colder months the runny noses, sore throats and persistent coughs are creeping back into our homes! So thought I would give you my top tips to staying healthy this winter!!

  • Washing hands regularly, we’ve become pros at this so keep this up at home also!
  • Nutrition is an important factor in ensuring we get all the necessary vitamins and nutrients we need to stay healthy. Fruits high in Vitamin C are fantastic in providing our body with immune boosting properties.
  • If your child is particularly fussy with foods looking into a good quality multi vitamin to support their immune system is important in the winter months. Opt for a multivitamin that contains - vitamins A, B6, B12, C, D, E, iron, magnesium, and zinc.
  • A probiotic is great for giving you that boost of good bacteria to outweigh the bad bacteria that invades when you’re unwell.
  • Keeping your child hydrated during winter can be difficult. However, it’s important as it helps regulate their body temperature and is essential to the proper function of cells, tissues and organs. Drinking water also gives their immune system a boost, preventing them from getting sick during winter/flu season.
  • Ensure you dress warm and appropriate for the weather, it is important that your child stays warm in order to control the rate that heat flows into and out of his or her body. Additionally, if the body gets chilled it becomes weaker and more susceptible to viruses.

Stay healthy
