2023 School Review

Futures are Bright...at Weeden Heights PS!

From the 2023 parent survey for the school review....

What does Weeden Heights do well in the areas of:

Student Learning

  • Inquiry learning task – appear to enable the child to be quite creative
  • Public speaking program/comp
  • French – kids seem to love the activities done during French class
  • Weeden focuses well on learning programmes.  In class, students are divided in groups for different group learning.  Students are showing strong desire to learn.  Teachers are monitoring every student’s progress and tailoring individual learning to each student.  Parents are aware of the progress of children’s learning from their home reading work or having quick chat with teachers.
  • Gain confidence
  • We love the focussing on thinking skills. Through this we would love encouragement in the children to actively thing beyond the norm terms.
  • Public speaking is also another good program to help children build their confidence.
  • I think that WHPS has a really great public speaking component to all classes.  This strengthens skills that may otherwise be missed in big schools. It also boosts confidence and self esteem.
  • Teaching students confidence and how to be assertive.
  • Approaching students on individual levels, keeping them busy and challenged.
  • The Inquiry Learning approach really builds the children’s foundational skill to learn from a young age.
  • Dedicated and focussed themes in the areas which would keep the kids to better retain information.
  • Public speaking, in depth inquiry learning, junior oral presentations, demonstrate further knowledge of inquiry topics, French as LOTE, individual programs (Chess, WiseOnes), enriched maths/English programs, VHAP.
  • Public speaking and class presentations from young age.
  • Joint programs across year levels.
  • Inquiry learning approach focussing on thinking skills, public speaking program
  • Public speaking program and the music school
  • Reports
  • Specialist subjects offered
  • Inquiry learning topics offered
  • Student awards
  • Jolly Phonics program
  • Teachers are very approachable and receptive to discussing individual student needs.
  • Café program allows for students to feel confident and feel valued at their learning level.
  • Public speaking – lots of other schools do not have this as a core part of learning.
  • Café Reading, inquiry, leadership roles to all year 6 students.

Student Engagement and Wellbeing

  • Great to see camp, excursions and incursions are still continuing, despite Covid
  • Wellbeing program
  • Weeden is a very inclusive school.  School did very well in taking care of children who have special needs and need extra support.  Teacher spent lots of individual time and efforts on students who needs help  Teacher and Principal are very responsibly running student support group meeting each term.
  • Leadership program
  • Small group meetings
  • Everybody is different.  Individual education plans are a good program to boost the best of the children.
  • Camping program is also good to help children to learn outside the school activities.
  • Overall, WHPS achieved student engagement and wellbeing really well.  Actually, it is probably one of the best things about the school, as all students feel valued and a part of a community.
  • Wellbeing program is good!
  • Camping and excursions are good!
  • The leadership team responsibilities that give the children the opportunity to learn and practice leadership skills
  • Well thought out plans and parents engagement are key to successful school/teacher – parent relationships.
  • Life Education, wellbeing programs/wellbeing days, inclusiveness and fairness.
  • Excursions and incursions are great.
  • Don’t know a lot about other wellbeing programs as my child is in grade 1 – further comms to parents about these programs would be great.
  • Individual education plans, camping program, excursions and incursions offered, understanding of student learning styles and needs
  • As this is my sone and daughter’s first month, we are already impressed by the school’s student support group that helps them to settle down
  • Excursions and incursions
  • Leadership opportunities
  • Extensive camping program
  • Behaviour management and high expectations
  • The size of the school enables each student to feel confident in leadership positions and public speaking.
  • All children can shine in their passions.
