Author’s purpose: the reason why someone wrote a text. For example: To entertain, inform, explain and persuade.

Read a text with your child and get them to identify the purpose of the text they’re reading. Get them to justify with evidence from the text. Also, ask them if the author was successful in meeting the purpose of the text. Get them to justify with evidence from the text.
