Multiplication
In Maths children have been learning to represent and solve multiplication problems using different strategies.
Here are some strategies you could practise at home:
Drawing pictures
Using drawings to represent a multiplication sentence helps children visualise the concept and understand what they are doing.
Grouping
Using blocks or even just a simple pile of objects, children group the items into equal piles. This helps them visualise the concept of equal groups and the underlying notion that "x" groups of "y" gives you a number, "z".
Array
An array is simply a rectangular arrangement of objects in rows and columns, arrays to show multiplication visually.
Number Lines
A number line is a visual way to show addition and subtraction, but it can also be used to introduce skip counting. Children would start at 0 and count up by the number they are multiplying by. So, if we wanted to model 3 x 4 using a number line, we would start at 0 and count up by 3 four times (0, 3, 6, 9, 12).
Literacy News
In week 7 it will be book week. We will host a book week dress up parade on Friday 25th August at 9:15am followed by a ‘Writers Festival’ at 9;45am where our children will showcase the stories they have been working on throughout the term. Parents are invited to come in and see all the hard work our authors have been working on.
Some of our children will be representing the school and visiting kinders around Reservoir during book week to read and share their favourite stories.
