School Councillor

Profile-

Miranda

We will be adding a profile of our parent school councillors in

this year's newsletters so you can get to know them.

Hi there! I’m Miranda, and I’ve been part of the Carnegie Primary School Council since 2021 and part of CPS since 2018.

Presently Jared and my two children attend CPS, Evangeline in grade 5 and Darcy in grade 2. When Evangeline started prep, she didn’t know any other children, and, as a family, we didn’t know many other families either, only our lovely neighbours. As I was a stay-at-home mum, I thought getting involved would be a great way to meet others, and time was something I did have to give. And so, I did. I put my hand up for the class rep, PFA, and the second-hand uniform stall (where I think most people will recognise me from). It was, and continues to be, wonderful to meet and get to know other parents and teachers across the different year levels, and even a new principal, and feel that CPS community ‘hug’.

Coming from a design and brand background, I sometimes wonder if I bring the right skill set to the Council, as often I don’t understand the education system, but as I try to encourage my kids to be present and give anything and everything a go, I figure I should do the same.

When I started at the Council, I had a few projects straddling both PFA and Council that I thought would benefit both the school and the community. Unfortunately, through circumstances, these ideas were shelved. Therefore, let me take this opportunity to briefly address one concept I’d like to put thought into again and would love to build our two-person team with additional expertise: an online CPS Business Directory. If anyone with a background in website development would like to offer their knowledge and skills, please let me know.

Some random facts about me… both my husband and I are Kiwis (different islands, though); I solve all major life decisions and issues over coffee and a chat (if not something a little stronger in the pm); I take my grandmother’s advice and never go to bed angry or upset; I was so horrified by my daughter’s first birthday cake (which I baked) I took cake decorating courses and now can create a pretty delicious and fun cake; and ironically I parent with a ‘let them eat cake’ approach; getting a puppy has been the most impactful experience of late; I have over 50 teas and can whip up a pretty good bubble tea too.

As I returned to work in late 2021, my presence around the school grounds isn’t what it once was, but if you have something you’d like to chat about, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Or if you see me walking that mischief maker called Daisy, join us, coffee is always part of the adventure.

For now, have a great week.

All my best, Miranda.
