Students will travel by bus, departing school at 9.30 a, returning by 12.30pm. Students will only require a snack and drink bottle for the excursion and will wear formal uniform.

Year 5 Excursion - Port Arthur - Friday 18 August

On Friday 18 August, Year 5 will be travelling to the Port Arthur Historic Site for a full day’s excursion as part of their ‘Where we are in place and time’ inquiry into how “Recognising bias helps form a balanced understanding of history”. Students will travel in two large coaches with seatbelts, departing school at 7.50am and returning to school at approx 4.30pm. The extended day is necessary to ensure students get to make the most of their day. Students need to meet in the driveway at the drive through by 7.45am to allow for a prompt departure. Students must be signed out by parents with their class teacher at the end of the day, unless alternative arrangements have been made prior to the day.

Full sports uniform is to be worn for easy identification and comfort. All students will need to bring their own backpack, containing a raincoat and their morning tea, lunch, afternoon snack and water bottle. Students are to carry their own asthma medication in their backpacks and other medications should be held by the classroom teacher.

Students will be spending a long time on the bus, please provide any travel sickness medication that your child requires to their teacher before departure.

As the excursion is outside the Greater Hobart area approval is required for your child to attend. Please respond to the Operoo form by Tuesday 15 August.

On Thursday 24 August Year 2 will be going to Cremorne Beach by bus with their class teachers and Outdoor Education Teacher, Lauren Stranger. They should bring a big lunch (no lunch orders) and lots of snacks, a full water bottle and any required personal medications (labelled) for the day, as well as a strong plastic bag in their school bags.  Please update student Operoo profiles before the excursion.

On Friday 25 August the Year 3 students will be going on an Outdoor Education excursion to explore the history and changing landscape surrounding the Hobart Rivulet. Parts of the journey will be on foot, other parts will be on a bus. Year 3 class teachers will accompany their classes with the assistance of Lauren Stranger (Morris Outdoor Education Teacher). We will depart school at 9.30am and return to school by approximately 3.00pm. Students should wear sports uniforms on this day, but will need to bring a warm jumper (wool, polar fleece or puffer jacket), beanie, gloves and a waterproof raincoat as it could be very cold.

As we will be away from school for most of the day, students will need to bring a large packed lunch (no lunch orders), snacks and drink from home as well as any required medications for the day. All of this equipment will need to be packed into a day backpack or their school backpack.

We would like to invite a small number of parent help for this day. If you are interested in assisting and haven't already been in touch please email Jayne or Charlie by Friday 18 August. Note that for all Friends’ School volunteer activities you will also need to complete a Volunteer Registration Form. Would parents please update Operoo if necessary.

Kindergarten Earthcare Days Term 3 - Lenah Valley

The Kindergarten children will be visiting a site near the Lenah Valley Linear Park for their Earthcare Days in Term 3. We will be going in the afternoons on Mondays in Weeks 2-6 of Term 3, leaving the School at 11.45am and returning by 2.45pm. We are aiming to develop responsibility and resilience in a natural environment. Please ensure that your child has a rubbish free lunch at Kindergarten, especially on Mondays to help practise Earthcare and awareness about the impacts of soft plastic on our natural environment. Your child will need appropriate warm clothing for the forecasted weather and spare clothing packed for the excursions as we will be playing outdoors even when it is raining. The school has wet weather jackets and overpants that the children will wear if necessary, depending on the weather. You can also support them by encouraging them to carry their own bags to and from school since they will be doing this on our Earthcare days. Please contact the Kindergarten team if you have any questions.

Morris Reading Event - Tasmanian Premier’s Reading Challenge

It is wonderful to see our students continue to challenge themselves with what they read, and how long they read for. We are hearing lovely stories about students reading with family and friends, and varying the places they read - under the bed, in the car on the way to school, and up a tree being popular choices! The theme for Week 7 of the Premier's Reading Challenge (PRC) is “What book would you like to be a character in?”.

We would love to see some photos of our students engaging in the PRC, and responses to our weekly themes. If you have some that you are willing to share, please email them to us. We are happy for you to get in touch with us at any time, Sharon Ryan and Catherine Duffett, Morris Teacher Librarians, sryan@friends.tas.edu.aucduffett@friends.tas.edu.au

Absentees

If your child will be absent from school for the day please advise the Morris Office (phone: 6210 2228, or email: morrisadmin@friends.tas.edu.au) and the classroom teacher before 9.00am. We appreciate your support in this process.
