Understanding the Voice Presentation

Later this year, Tasmanians will vote on the referendum to formally recognise the First Peoples of Australia in the Constitution and establish a permanent Indigenous voice to Parliament (The Voice).

 

In preparation for this historic vote, the School, in partnership with Reconciliation Tasmania, would like to invite Parents, Guardians and Carers to a free presentation on 'Understanding the Voice'.

 

The interactive presentation is delivered by a Reconciliation Tasmania facilitator and covers areas and conversations about:

  1. lutruwita/Tasmania’s history;
  2. The Uluru Statement; and
  3. The Constitution and referendum process

When: 6:30pm, Wednesday 23 August 2023

Father's Day Event | Tuesday 29 August, 5-6.30pm

All students and their families are warmly invited to our Father's Day event to celebrate their dad, guardian, grandfather or special family friend. This year our event will be held the week before Father's Day on Tuesday the 29th of August, 5-6.30pm. This is a free event and is accessible to all students and their families. We will be offering a free viewing of a new twist on a family classic movie, Christopher Robin, along with complimentary ice cream and popcorn treats.  View the offical trailer here

Wellbeing Weekend Reminder

Monday 4 September

As previously communicated, the School has introduced a Wellbeing Weekend during Term 3 with students and staff having a long weekend on Monday 4 September 2023. We hope all students, families and staff make use of this long weekend to rest, reconnect and recharge in anticipation of the remainder of the year. There will be no classes K-12 on Monday 4 September, however, Friends’ Early Learning will be providing care and learning as is the case during term breaks.

2023 Battle of the Bands

Thursday 31 August - 6pm - 9pm

The 2023 Friends’ School Amnesty Battle of the Bands is being held in The Farrall Centre on Thursday 31 August. The event will commence at 6.00pm and conclude at 9.00pm and will feature student bands from Years 7 – 12. Entry is gold coin donation and soft drinks will be available for purchase with all proceeds going to the schools Amnesty group.

Attending students are to be dropped off and collected from the venue.

 

This is an ‘in house’ event for school students and parents only. Any non-school student/adult arriving will be asked to leave as The Friends’ School cannot accept responsibility for non-Friends’ students. There will be no pass outs and there are to be no bags brought into the venue by students other than that required by the performers.

 

School parents are welcome to attend and will be seated upstairs of the The Farrall Centre, students (Years 7 -12 only) will be situated downstairs. We would love to see you come along and support the students at this evening of musical celebration.

Friends' Food Festival | SAVE THE DATE

Pop 4.30-7pm on Saturday 25 November 2023 in your diaries - all school community members are invited to the Friends' Food Festival event. Held on the Argyle Street Campus, there'll be food and drink vans, student musical performances and a ‘busking stage’; and entertainment for the younger kids. More information to follow.

Withdrawals for 2024

We would like to remind all families that if your child is not returning to Friends’ in 2024 the procedure to withdraw a student is to provide one term’s notice in writing, via letter or email addressed to the Principal Nelson File. Therefore, notice is due by the final day of Term 3, 2023. If notification is received after this day, one term's fees in lieu of the notice period will be applied. If you have any questions please feel free to contact the Enrolments Office on 6210 2286 or via enrol.office@friends.tas.edu.au to discuss.

Quaker Meetings for Worship

All members of The Friends’ School community are welcome to attend our Meeting for Worship any Sunday from 10.00am, closing about 11.00am, with morning tea available afterwards.

 

Children are always welcome and there is a Children’s Meeting held concurrently with the Meeting for Worship. They learn about Quaker values through a range of interesting and fun activities. Around 10.50am the children join the Meeting for Worship, settling into the gathered Meeting for the last 10 minutes, usually sitting with their parents.

Thursday Morning Meeting for Worship

Members of The Friends' School community are welcome to attend a short Meeting for Worship held each Thursday morning during term time, starting at 7.45am. Just come quietly in when you can and join us until 8.20am in the Hobart Quaker Meeting House, which is located just below the Clemes office on Boa Vista Road.

Community Yoga

An inspiring way to start your day with energising movement, focused breathing and a moment for relaxation and stillness.  All members of the school community are welcome to attend our Wednesday morning sessions from 7.45 - 8.15am in The Farrall Centre.
