YCDI

This term, we will work on consolidating the toolkit of YCDI skills that children require to grow into independent learners. This will be conducted through investigative approaches including: games, observations, fiction and non-fiction texts and role plays. The skills that will be focused on this term, include, but are not limited to: collaboration, initiative, active listening and friendship-building and maintaining skills. We will also continue implementing the ‘Mindful 5’ session every afternoon. During this time, students will select one mindfulness task to complete for five minutes. This aims to support their transition from playtime to learning time. Students will become more reflective this term, as they will critically evaluate the task that would be most effective for themselves as individuals at that particular time.

To support your child’s YCDI skills at home, you could:

  • Complete household tasks or games together such as cooking, packing toys away, or playing a boardgame. During this time, discuss the collaboration skills you need to implement in order to execute the tasks effectively. For example, ‘We need to actively listen to the instructions before playing the game to ensure everyone knows what to do’.
  •  Ask your child to explain the situations in which they may need to use a ‘Mindful Five’ strategy.
  • Ask your child to implement or teach a family member a ‘Mindful Five’ strategy at home. Examples include: mindfulness colouring, yoga/stretching and completing a puzzle.
