Inquiry

This term, students will investigate the following guiding question, “How do we express ourselves?”. They will explore a range of folktales and traditional stories from around the world, and analyse the moral being shared by the storyteller. Students will use the knowledge gained by exploring the traditional stories to engage in authentic, student-driven learning. They will investigate the folktales specific to a culture of interest and transfer their learning of the arts to present their folktale, together with its moral, to a broader audience. Their learning will be enhanced through their participation in our Cultural Infusion Incursion, during which students will engage in three different programs, each exploring stories, music, dance, artwork and instruments from a different culture.

To support your child’s Inquiry skills at home, you could:

  • Share traditional stories from your own culture, or others that you are familiar with.
  • Ask your child to share the moral of stories they have learnt at school. You will find anchor chart examples of this on Seesaw as well as folktales shared on Reading Eggs.
  • Collaboratively identify the moral or message of a story when reading readers or library books with your child.
  • Investigate different elements of cultures of interest other than your own. This could include: listening to traditional music, trying traditional foods, learning to say hello in another language, etc:
