Spelling
In Term Three, students will continue to learn to spell new words through our Whole School Approach to Spelling involving learning personalised spelling words and letter/sound patterns. Similar to previous terms, their personalised words will come from their writing. Students will practise these words transfer the correct spelling of them to both their weekly spelling tests, and in different Writing contexts. Throughout the term, students will be explicitly taught different letters/sound patterns, particularly focusing on digraphs such as ‘sh’, ‘ch’, ‘th’, etc., to further enhance their knowledge in spelling. In addition, students will be encouraged to record interesting words from the books they read and experiment implementing them in their Speaking and Writing.
To support your child’s Spelling skills at home, you could:
- Support your child to use ‘Look, Say, Name, Cover, Write, Check’ to practise their personalised spelling words during home learning.
- Create sentences using their personalised words.
- Find words in books they are reading that contain our weekly spelling focus.
- Create a list of interesting words from their reading and use them in speaking and writing opportunities.
