Our Year 11 students have had an amazing week in Melbourne doing Work Experience at a wide variety of businesses.

They have all learnt so much about city life, public transport and the rigors of working in the city.

A huge THANK YOU to Mrs Oliver, Mr Warren, Mr S Gosai, Mrs C Hooppell and Mr C Huddy for attending the camp and supporting our students to have this amazing opportunity.

WORK EXPERIENCE

For year 11 Work Experience, I went to a Marketing business in Collingwood called Trout. Don’t be deceived by the name, Trout was a fantastic program that promoted creative thinking.

I worked on confidential projects all throughout the week and I finished their creative program, which entailed making mood boards, business cards, a campaign, and finally recording a motion video for my campaign.

Even though my primary interest isn't art, I still enjoyed the tasks and activities Trout set up for me each day throughout the week.

The camp overall was a fantastic experience, except for my nervous attempts to go to my workplace without tram changes interfering.

Tara and I adored the experience of living the city life by having a 7-eleven within walking distance, which provided us with the essential last-minute Krispy Kreme doughnut run, crucial before heading off to evening activities.

Maddison Pearse

For my Year 11 Work Experience I went to Communicado, a business that specialises in marketing and public relations. They promote well-known companies like Dulux, Petstock, and Mattel, and I had the chance to write for them, endorse their products, and attend top-secret meetings.

I had something of a challenge figuring out how to use the city trams at the beginning of the week, but I was fortunate to work only 20 minutes away from the hotel.

I adored Melbourne because it was so different from Rochester and having a 7Eleven on your doorstep and buying donuts every other day wasn’t something Maddy and I were used to!

After work, we had the chance to engage in a variety of activities with our other students, such as going to the movies, playing laser tag, and visiting the Eureka SkyDeck.

All in all, my time spent at the camp was fantastic and it was an ideal opportunity to learn about potential career paths while spending a week in the city, a place I’d like to move to eventually.

I would recommend every future year 11 to attend this camp as it has helped me determine the university course I want to pursue after high school.
