Principal News
As I walk around our school today seeing students and staff wearing their new House tops, I am feeling proud and 'deadly'. Yesterday we held a special assembly to reveal the new names of our 4 Houses. During this assembly Ms Nason and some of our proud indigenous students spoke about the story behind the name change to the houses, the significance of the names chosen for the houses and every student was provided with a top to wear. We had representatives from Carrum Downs Secondary College as well many other special guests attend to help mark this significant moment in our history. We now ask that every Friday all students (and staff) wear their house top to keep the spirit alive and strengthen the connections between students, their house mates and our school.
I wanted to provide an update to our school community on our build project. You may recall that earlier this year we received funding for a major facilities upgrade and this is very exciting for our school. The funds provided will allow the school to undertake Stage 1 of the building works which will be focused on renovating and upgrading our Mutli Purpose Building to create a purpose build STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths) centre. This modern facility will be able to be enjoyed by all students in all year levels and will allow us to have state of the art facilities that are kitted out for modern and progressive teaching and learning. At this stage we have a design team who have been spending time understanding the current and future needs and priorities for our school, they have produced design plans that will be used to guide our construction team who will soon be appointed with construction expected to start in the middle of Term 4. Once the construction team have been appointed we will be provided with some example images of what our new STEM centre will look like and I will make these available to our school community as I am sure this will generate some excitement.
As you would expect, any construction project is exciting but also comes with a certain level of inconvenience while parts of our school are our of action. With construction expected to begin in the middle of next term, we will temporarily relocate our music program down to the Hall and our art program will go into the prep building. Big Childcare will relocate to the Hall and we are still confirming if the canteen will operate on site, off site or will not be able to operate during the building works. I look forward to providing more information as more information becomes available.
