A Message from

Hannah & Keir

We would like to acknowledge and honour the Wurundjeri Woi-Wurrung people of the Kulin Nation as the traditional custodians of the land on which our school stands. We pay our respects to all First Nations elders, past present, and emerging.

Winter Magic Market - This Saturday!

Yes, it’s finally here - Winter Magic Market Week! Before the big day you can expect a few additional notices flying into your inbox; we don’t do this to annoy any of you and appreciate the generosity of our community.

Most of you have attended a Winter Magic Market - what made it magic for you? For us it has to be seeing our families past, present and future connecting and reconnecting through creativity, laughter and play; the fires, the music and of course the cakes.

If you haven’t signed up for a shift yet, we would really appreciate you grabbing a friend and signing up. Friends busy? Sign up anyway and make more on your shift! Sign me up to the fun!

Teacher Professional Practice Day & Student-Led Conferences

If you’re keeping an eye on the school calendar, you will know the start of next week is not like usual.

Students are not required to attend school next Monday. Our teachers will be engaging in their Teacher Professional Practice Day - a day for teachers to focus on improved delivery of high-quality instruction through planning, assessment, collaboration, curriculum development, and more. Since the pandemic started, schools are able to plan for the collection of professional practice days to relieve the need for CRTs.

Our School Council chose this date to allow for more time for families and the school to ‘recover’ after our market on Saturday!

Student-led conferences will be taking place next Tuesday (15th August) between 11.00am and 7.00pm. We will be opening up the booking platform on Sentral at 4.30 tomorrow afternoon. Please look out for a Sentral communication letting you know that the platform has been opened. We will close the booking platform at 4.30pm on Monday 14th August, so it is important to book your conferences before this time.

Classes have been spending time over the past weeks preparing for conferences and highlighting successes and goals in order to share these with families.

If your family is unable to attend a student-led conference, please contact your child’s teacher so that alternative arrangements can be made.

Wednesday - Friday will be normal school days.

Boite Choir

Last week BNWPS had the privilege of being part of the Boite Schools Chorus. The Boîte is a Victorian multicultural music organisation that creates opportunities for culturally diverse music to contribute to a richer, more inclusive Australia. It supports artists from diverse communities, promotes cultural understanding through the dynamic presentation of unique musical experiences, and nurtures creativity and collaboration.

Since 2004 the Boîte Schools Chorus has involved over 9000 students from across Victoria in 42 concerts in Melbourne, Frankston, Ballarat, Bairnsdale & Albury. The Boite Schools Chorus project invites students into a new world through song, builds confidence, broadens horizons and develops valuable performance and interpersonal skills.

This year’s Boite concert was titled Maiem; Songs of the Torres Strait. The talented chorus guided us through some heartfelt music (accompanied by some wonderful movement!) from the Torres Strait.

A huge round of applause to all of the students involved in the Chorus, and a very big thank you to our amazing staff members Bek and Jesse, as well as Lani Seligman; a tireless parent helper and support who was instrumental in getting BNWPS organised and involved in this year’s chorus.

We look forward to many more!
