St Vincent De Paul Winter Appeal

During last term, our Social Justice leaders launched the St Vincent De Paul Winter Appeal.  Once again the St James community donated generously to those in our community in need.  At the end of last term we celebrated the Feast of the Sacred Heart with a Liturgy and presented our donations to representatives of the Gardenvale Conference of St Vincent de Paul.  A very big thank you also to Miss Taylor and the Year 4 students for leading us in prayer.

Feast of St James

Last week we celebrated the Feast Day of St James.  In classes students completed a number of different activities to build their knowledge and understanding of our patron saint, St James the Great.  At lunchtime we celebrated with a sausage sizzle and to finish the day we came together in prayer with a St James Feast Day Liturgy.

Thank you to Mrs Fatouros and the Year 5 students for leading our Liturgy and the Year 6 Social Justice Leaders for helping with the sausage sizzle.  It was another wonderful opportunity to see the St James spirit alive in us all.

Year 4 First Communion

This coming Wednesday, the 9th of August the Year 4 students will be participating in a Eucharist reflection day in preparation for their First Eucharist on Thursday 16th of August.

On the day the students will be taking part in a number of activities including, visiting St Joan of Arc Church and coming together to share a meal just like Jesus did at the Last Supper.  We wish all the Year 4’s a wonderful day.

Mary MacKillop Feast Day

This Tuesday the 8th of August, we celebrate the feast day of Australia’s first saint, Mary

MacKillop.  Mary MacKillop is also known as Saint Mary of the Cross MacKillop.  She is recognised for her commitment to the poor, helping those who needed it the most in any way she could.

Next week students will be involved in a number of class activities exploring the life of Mary MacKillop and the ways in which they too can be of service to others just like Mary.  During our Friday assembly next week, the Social Justice Leaders will lead us in prayer to mark this special day.

School Prayer

On Tuesday, staff and students had the pleasure of working with Ange Virgona in creating a St James School Prayer.

Ange met with the Year 6 Community Leaders and SRC representatives from each level to gain student voice on what they felt was important in a prayer about St James.  He then met with staff and took us through a similar process.  We will work with Ange again in a fortnight and are excited to share our St James prayer with the wider community in the coming weeks.
