Tremendous Topsy

With a new cohort of bright-eyed Year 7 students, Topsy began the year by securing the House Cup for dodgeball. Juniors were exceptional with Atticus Angelo leading from the front with sublime evasive skills whilst Angas Haines’ lethal right arm caused havoc among our competitors. We showed amazing comradery and reflected the spirit which we have learned to expect from Topsy Smith students. Eli Frearson, Jonathan George, Liam Heenan and Sazkoda Dunn were super impressive too.

Covid-19 and the timing of the carnival for a few students significantly impacted our chances at the Cross Country Carnival. Atticus Angelo finished first with Riley Schoner hot on his hammer in second place. Two of our leaders, Keira Pengilly and Nick Boffa fought hard to finish second as Hannah Jacob, Sarah Moyle, Ryan James and Maia Frearson competed well to run over the line in the top 10 of their respective year levels. We finished 6th, though can be proud of our efforts which we used to propel us into the Winter Carnival.

The last place in the Cross Country served as our catalyst for the Winter Carnival. We selected the sports in which we were confident to play competitively, to only just fall short by 1 point (to McKay).

1st – Tennis & Soccer

2nd – Badminton & Mountain Biking (Martha Livingstone – MVP)

3rd – OZTAG (Sazkoda Dunn – MVP) & Engineering

5th – Girls Netball

6th – Lawn Bowls & Mixed Netball

Results have not yet been announced for Term 2 House Sport, though we played some incredible volleyball. One of the highlights was our success with Pedrea Jackson, Cody Willmott-Taylor, George Habib and Ella Williams taking on a full opposition team and crushing it. This fighting spirit was admired by the House whilst our junior team only lost one match for the term. Liam Heenan and Rylie Bodnar were the standouts and our ability to communicate effectively was super impressive. We eagerly await the results.

Congratulations to everyone who received an Academic Award on Wednesday. This is a testament to your dedication and ability to show tenacity towards your studies. We are proud of everyone who walked across the stage to accept their awards.

Unfortunately we have bid farewell to: Kite Quilty, Jordan Smith, Angus Laherty, Egan Rundle, Edie Weatherstone, Jacqueline Ashby and Kaylyn Kopas. We wish them the very best in their future endeavours and hope they encounter success.

We will aim to achieve back-to-back-to-back success at the Athletics Carnival in Term 3 whilst continuing to show zest for learning and engaging with each and every subject. Let’s continue to show compassion for one another and keep doing the small things which make the big difference at the end of the day.

Stay amazing,
