All students attending St Louis de Montfort's Aspendale have the right to feel safe. The care, safety and wellbeing of children and young people is a fundamental responsibility of all within our school.

Hi all

Thank you to all of the parents who help us out at our Athletics Day.  If you dropped in for only half an hour or you were there for the full day, it was greatly appreciated.  I have included the entire Spirit Leader's speech from a short assembly we had this morning (complete with applause prompts so you can feel part of the action!).

Have a great break and we will see you on the other side.

Yours in Sport

Dean Andrew

Sports Coordinator

Hi everyone.  My name is April.  This is Leni and and we are the House Spirit Leaders for Lourdes.

The St Louis Athletics day was a huge success on Tuesday.  We all competed in the high jump, long jump, sprints, hurdles, shot put and discus with varying degrees of success.  Many of us were lucky enough to run in the 4 x 100 m relay and, for those with any energy left, ran in the 800 m.

Points were awarded on the results of the competition as well as to those that displayed acts of good sportsmanship.  It was a long day but a good day with many individual acts of greatness both on and off the track.  We would like to thank the Mentone Athletics track for the use of their fantastic facilities.  Little Athletics starts at the start of fourth term every year.  It is a great sport to be involved in.

We thank all of the staff of St Louis de Montfort who all prayed for no rain the night before.  Their prayers were answered.  More importantly, thank you for measuring, raking, timing, collecting and encouraging us all day without being awarded a single ribbon.  Thank you for making the day such a success.  Can we give them all three cheers please (hip, hip….)

The day wouldn’t have been possible if it wasn’t for the parent volunteers.  Some helped us set up, some helped us pack away.  They gave out ribbons, taught us how to throw a discus, looked after when we fell on the hurdles and cheered us on all day.  If your parent were at the athletics, can you please pass on a BIG Thank You to them from all of us when you get home.

We had many parents who dropped in for a short time who cheered on from the sidelines.  We are grateful to them as well as they add to the colour and atmosphere on the day.  We appreciate them for taking some time away from work or other commitments to make it an even more fun day.  If one of those parents was your parent, can you thank them when you get home please.

Each year, we recognise the fastest boy and girl runner at our athletics day.  The student can come from any age group.  Mr Mitchell is a master timer of the 100 m sprint.  His results are final!  The girl’s Champion Sprinter for 2022 is (dramatic pause) Leila Gothard.  Can you please stand up (begin to clap)

The fastest time ran by a boy on Athletics Day was not in the final.  In fact this boy ran 4th in his final.  But he did run the fastest time of the day in the first heat.  The winner of the boy’s Champion Sprinter for 2022 is Harvey Wintle.  Can you please stand up (begin to clap).

The scores were collected, tallied and here are the results.  In fourth place, on 62 points, was (dramatic pause) Fatima

In third place, on 72 points, was (dramatic pause) Lourdes.

In second place, on 127 points was (dramatic pause) Carmel

We would like to announce the winner of the 2022 St Louis Athletics Day as MacKillop.

Can the 2 MacKillop Spirit Leader captains please come to the front to accept the annual shield.  (offer the microphone to make speeches).

Yesterday we sent a team for the first ever AFL girls district event.  It was a  round robin format to decide who would represent our district at the division level.  Our girls played brilliantly and won all four games.  Our stand out player on the day was Tilly with plenty of centre clearances and relentless tackling.  Leila, Liv, Abbey and Basher O’Brien were also very good.  Importantly, they played well as an entire team with plenty of on and off field support.   The division finals will be played  on Wednesday 20th July.

For sports teams to be at their best, they have to support, respect and look after each other.  They need to accept umpiring decisions, congratulate good play and look after their team mates if they make a mistake.  Sometimes you can play a team with better players but, if your team works together, you can still be successful.  Can the girls AFL team please stand up.  (start applause)

Last Friday we had two other teams who displayed that willingness to support each other to be their best on the field of play.  The girls’s T-Ball and the mixed Soccer teams did that last Friday and are now the District Champions.  Both teams will be representing us at a Division level next term.  Their team work was outstanding.  Can the two teams please stand up.  (wait till they are standing)  Can we please give them a round of applause (start applause)

Thank you to everyone for listening.
