Celebration
I would like to celebrate some of the achievements of our students this week.
It gave me great pleasure to supervise some of the exams and I was thrilled to see how diligently our Year 7 students applied themselves. It was clear that some families had gone the extra mile to ensure their child had the right materials for each exam and students were able to conduct themselves responsibility in the exam space.
Many of our senior students in Years 10-11 made use of the option to study from home when there was not an exam on their schedule. The College is exploring ways we can encourage our students to work more independently and take ownership for their learning.
Later this week parents who have students in Years 9-11 will receive and invitation to our online EMERGE Curriculum Information Night on Wednesday 22 June 2022. Parents will receive a Subject Selection Guide to help them navigate this process of mapping out a course of study for their child’s final years of secondary school.
I would like to stress that whilst there are important decisions to be made, and there will be deadlines and due dates, it is our commitment to our students that we see this as a process that involves research, consultation, and support.
Teaching and Learning Stars
- Congratulations to Harry Brown in Year 9 who submitted an outstanding presentation on an innovation called “Optiweigh Scales”. His teachers Mrs. Carmody (RIST) and Mr. Lewis who deliver the Agribusiness and Entrepreneurship course have been excited to see the research on an Agri Tech Innovation product.
- Many of our senior students are involved with studying a VET subject with an External Provider. A special mention goes to Benjamin Vallance (Year 10) who has impressed his instructors at the Hamilton and District Skills Centre in his VET course in Automotive with his work ethic and application.
- Head of English, Mrs. Belinda Nichols, has drawn attention to the sophisticated and highly engaging work of the Year 12 Literature students who have written creatively in response to ‘Only the Animals’ by Ceridwen Dovey.
As a teacher, what gives me the most pleasure is seeing our students persevere and attempt tasks that may demand effort and concentration. There is reward in working hard. At The Hamilton and Alexandra College, we are preparing students for a future world of work and study, to be collaborative, creative, and critical thinkers.
