The Principal's Desk

Dear parents, families and friends,

Well, we have made it to to the end of Term 2 and Semester 1. Considering ongoing covid cases as well as increased cases of colds and flu, we have managed to stay open and see the life of the school return to normal. Looking back over the term it is amazing to see how much we were are to do in a shorter term of 9 weeks. Most importantly is the fact that we have been able to hold so many activities that families could attend; Cross Country and Athletics Carnival, Mother's Day Breakfast, Open Day, Biggest Morning Tea, school masses and learning expos to name but a few.

Interschool Cross Country

Students from St. Augustine's represented our school at the District and Regional Cross Country Carnivals. Charlie 5/6 B, Harry 5/6 MK, Billie 3/4 WS and Lachie 5/6 B all ran extremely well. Billie and Lachie progressed to the Regionals and again performed very well.

First Reconciliation & First Holy Communion

Last Tuesday the students in Year 3 celebrated the Sacrament of First Reconciliation. This is a very important step in their sacramental journey. It is a beautiful sacrament in which the students learn about the eternal love of God , experienced through the act of forgiveness. I always enjoy watching watching the students; before as they enter the confessional nervously and after as they walk out with a big smile and a spring in their step. We will continue to pray for these students as they now begin preparing for their First Holy Communion.

On Wednesday evening we gathered together for the First Holy Communion Family Night. This was facilitated by Fr Elio Capra who lead the parents through the theology behind the signs and symbols of the Sacrament of the Eucharist. The students worked in another room preparing their First Holy Communion posters that will be on display in the office foyer.

Please see the Faith News page for a more detailed report as well as images.

The after school coding classes will again continue next term. The focus will this time be on Minitendo. Please refer to the flier on the School News page for full details. se the link below to go straight to the online registration.

Reports and Learning Conversations

Semester 1 Reports were published last Friday and were then followed up this week with the Learning Conversations on Tuesday afternoon/evening. After reading all reports I was very impressed with all that the students have achieved during this semester. The feedback received from the reports and Learning Conversations has been very positive. We now look forward to Term 3 and 4 and all the possibilities and challenges they will present.

I wish all students a safe, enjoyable and relaxing winter holiday. There are plenty of movies to watch: Top Gun 2, Jurassic World Dominion, Minions the Rise of Gru, Buzz Lightyear and Thor. For those families travelling near and far, please travel and return safely, but most of all enjoy the travelling and the time away as a family.

Until next term.

Kind regards,

Matthew Stead
