As we head towards the end of the year, please remember to be vigilant with your children and their online activity.  At PCC we use the Cyberhound software.  Cyberhound is a software system that provides cyber safety solutions for our college by identifying online risks early to keep our students safe while also teaching them how to become responsible digital citizens.  Cyberhound was designed in Australia to simplify the growing complexity of managing online activity in schools, for example: the use of eLearning tools, web browsing and application use.

CyberHound software allows our teachers to focus on teaching and learning while taking care of our IT safety needs by delivering reliable and safe internet experiences, for both our teachers and students. It continuously informs our Technology of the activity our PCC students are involved in when using the internet.

Environmental Science News – Migratory Shorebird Celebrations by Robyn Cairns

Last week was a week of migratory shorebird celebrations at Point Cook College.

A huge congratulations to our Words with Wings students who performed the book they co- wrote and illustrated, Rosie Wonders.  Rosie Wonders is a story about a bar- tailed godwit, a migratory shorebird who leaves our local Point Cook shorelines to travel on the East Australasian flyway to Alaska.  A very special thank you to all the parents and grandparents who were able to attend on the day.  Thank you to Kate Gorringe Smith, our resident artist (funded through Creative Victoria ) and all our community partnership guests who attended on the day. We were all so proud of our students.

The celebrations continued after the morning perfomance with a bird watching trip to Lake Borrie where sharp tailed sandpipers and many other birds were sighted much to the childrens excitement. Thank you to Lindall Kidd from Birdlife Australia who attended and provided all students with a set of binoculars to observe with on the day.

Sport Report by Amy Van Braam

On the 29th and 31st October we had three Sporting teams represent Point Cook P-9 College in Hockey:

Year 7/8 Girls- with Ms Amy Van Braam

Year 7/8 Boys with Ms Gabrielle Minett

Year 9 Girls with Mr Brad Petter

Each group had a lot of fun and tried hard.  It was particularly challenging given the 30+ weather on the two days of the events, and that hockey is a winter sport.  I was super proud of how hard both the girl’s teams tried, having to play short of teammates, but they were not discouraged and continued playing with amazing sportsmanship.

Congratulations to all teams.
